“That last turn went pretty well, so I'm hoping that's a sign of things to come.” Hands on her hips, Yuffie focused her eyes on the remaining players. “Now which one of you am I going to trust to keep up the momentum?” Giving the process of picking the next player far more attention than it really required, Yuffie scrutinized several other potential players before stopping at you. “You think you've got what it takes?”

You weren't really sure what exactly she meant by that, but you found yourself nodding anyway. “Yeah, I guess so.”

“You guess? That's not very convincing, but it'll have to do.” Dropping the hat on your lap with a sigh, she officially picked you as the next player. “Here's the hat, do your thing, and good luck. The pickings are getting kind of slim around here.”

“A little, but I'm sure it'll turn out alright.” Though the hat was actually quite light, there were still a good number of items inside to choose from. Had Yuffie not been impatiently waiting for you to pick something, you might have taken a bit more time in deciding which item to grab. As things were now, however, you simply picked up the first thing you could. In this case, that thing was a large, badly worn feather. “I got a feather. It looks like it might have been kind of pretty, before being put into the hat.”

“It was.” Answering quietly, Edward joined you by your seat as Yuffie quickly snatched away the hat and put it back in its place. Brows furrowed slightly at the sight of his item, your partner offered you his hand. “Oh well.”

All too aware of the host's impatience, you hurried to accept his hand and started for the closet. Only after you were both inside, with the door shut, did you speak again. “Sorry about that. I might have been the one to crush it.” Though you had only just sat down, you had already started to worry that your partner might be upset by the state of the now rather useless feather. “I was kind of rushing myself to pick something, so I wasn't being as careful as I probably should have been.”

“It's okay.” His voice even quieter now that the two of you were alone, Edward tried to put your mind at ease in as few words as possible. “I have plenty more.”

“Oh, really? I'm glad.” You wanted to be relieved by his words, but he had said them so solemnly, it was hard to tell if he really meant them or not. “You were being so quiet I thought you were really torn up about losing it.”Hoping it would help to alleviate some of the awkwardness that was finding its way into the closet, you offered him a smile. “I guess you're just the quiet, mysterious type then, huh?”

Looking anywhere but at you, Edward shyly shook his head. “I wouldn't say that.”

“No? Well, you seem pretty quiet and mysterious to me, but whatever you say.” As your eyes adjusted to the darkness, you slowly moved closer to your partner. In all honesty, you weren't even sure if he was going to participate or not, but you were going to give it a shot. Not speaking again until you were sure you were close enough to kiss him, you cleared your throat. “So, I guess we had better get to playing now, huh? We're probably already pretty low on time.”

After a few seconds of silence, Edward answered in a hushed tone. “I suppose you're right.” Nodding slowly, he finally lifted his sights from the ground to look at you. When he did, your unexpected closeness caused his eyes to go wide.

“Surprised?” Giggling at his shocked expression, you made no attempt to give him back any of his personal space. “I guess I snuck up on you, didn't I?”

Nodding sheepishly, Edward admitted the obvious truth. “You did.”

Sure you were about to surprise him again, you couldn't keep yourself from smiling. “Sorry about that.” Not about to leave the closet without a kiss, you leaned in just enough to press your lips to his flushed cheek. As soon as you did this, you could feel his blush intensify dramatically.

Bursting through the door almost as soon as the kiss began, Yuffie flicked on the light and clicked her tongue at what she saw. “You cut it kind of close, didn't you? What is it with you all people and waiting until the last possible minute to go in for the kiss?” Shaking her head at you both she turned on her heel and shrugged. “Well, whatever. Better late than never, I guess.”
