Description        Lying face down in your bed, you pressed your aching head against your soft pillow and quietly moaned in pain. In addition to a terrible headache, your joints ached and your sinuses were clogged. Breathing through your nose was impossible, but breathing through your mouth burned your throat. No matter what position you were in, you couldn't get comfortable, meaning sleeping was completely out of the question. Though you knew full well that you weren't supposed to leave your room after nightfall, you couldn't take the throbbing in your head anymore. Moving slowly, so as not to wake up your roommate, you crept out of bed and slipped on your shoes. Feeling too ill to change, you left the room wearing nothing more than your pajamas. “Please, please don't let me get in trouble for this. That's seriously the last thing I need right now.”

Though it took all your concentration and focus to do so, you managed to tiptoe out of the girl's dorms and proceeded outside, hoping you wouldn't be seen. Upon first glance, no one seemed to be outside, meaning that you should be able to make it to Headmaster Cross without being spotted. Even if you were this lucky, however, there was no guarantee that you wouldn't still wind up in trouble for leaving your room. With the pounding in your head growing stronger by the minute, that trouble was worth it. “There's no way I could get in trouble for this. I know I'm breaking the rules, but at least I have a good reason.” Busy trying to convince yourself that you wouldn't be punished for your actions, you were totally oblivious to the fact that someone was now following you.

This meant that when your stalker finally spoke, you jumped, making your joints ache that much worse. “What are you doing outside this late?

Spinning around, effectively making yourself terribly dizzy in the process, you squinted your eyes in the darkness and looked up to find Akatsuki. Though there was no moon to help you see by, the dim lamps placed around campus allowed you to make out a few distinguishing features. “Oh, it's you.” Relieved that it wasn't a member of the disciplinary committee, you placed your hand on your chest and sighed. “I'm going to see Headmaster Cross.”

Though he really didn't seem particularly interested in you, or the fact that you were breaking the rules, Akatsuki still questioned you. “Why?”

“I don't think that's really any of your business.” Crossing your arms tightly over your chest in an attempt to keep yourself warm, and make yourself look more confident, you shook your head. “Besides, shouldn't you be in class or something right now? There's no one else out here, so I can only assume that you're skipping class.”

“No, I shouldn't be in class.” Akatsuki didn't try to talk you into telling him anything after your first refusal, but the way he was looking at you made it ridiculously difficult for you to stay quiet. As calm and relaxed as he seemed, there was still something in his gaze that sent a chill down your spine.

Since you really had no reason why you shouldn't tell him where you were going, you eventually caved in. “I'm sick and can't sleep. I tried for a long time, but it's just no use. I was hoping Headmaster Cross would have some medicine I could use.” Growing dizzy from your prolonged standing, you took a deep breath in, despite the burning in your lungs. You had hoped that this would clear your head a bit, but it only made matters worse. “Happy now?”

Looking increasingly bored with this conversation by the second, Akatsuki raised a single brow. “Why would I be happy?”

“Because you were being all nosy, and now you've got your answer.” Unsure if he was being difficult, or if your sickness was just making you more easy to confuse than normal, you groaned. “Never mind, it's not important.” Knowing that your risk of getting caught rose with each second you stood out in the open like this, you sought to end the rather uneventful conversation. “Now excuse me, I need to get going before I fall down, flat on my face and pass out in the grass.” Quickly turning away from him, you took a single step towards your destination. The moment you placed your foot on the ground, however, your legs gave out. Sure you were going to fall, just like you'd said you would, you closed your eyes, held up your hands and braced yourself for the impact that was to come.

The very second you'd started to fall, Akatsuki scooped you up and held you in his arms. He'd caught you so quickly, you hadn't even been able to process what had happened. This meant that you were still in a defensive position, even after he'd saved you from hitting the ground. Because your eyes were closed, you were unable to see the fact that he was amused by your slowness. “You're not still falling, you know.”

“I'm not?” Slowly opening one eye, you looked around and assessed the situation. “Oh, I'm not.” Though you were now in no danger of falling down and hurting yourself, there was still a very good chance that you might pass out. This was simply due to the fact that you were in Akatsuki's arms. “I lost balance and thought I was going to fall. I didn't expect you to catch me.” You sighed. “I guess I kind of jinxed myself with the whole falling down thing.”

Paying little attention to what you were saying, Akatsuki began walking towards the Headmaster's home, with you still securely in his arms. “Maybe.”

“I think I probably did. That's why I said it.” Hoping he wouldn't be able to see the fact that you were now blushing, you cleared your sore throat and spoke in the calmest tone you could manage. “So, are you going to carry me all the way to the Headmaster? You could get into a lot of trouble for doing that, you know.”

Not worried, even in the slightest, he gave you a short, blunt answer that matched his stale expression perfectly. “I'll be fine.”

“If you say so.” Having a hard time not showing your awkwardness, you decided to tease him in the hopes that it would make you feel better. “You know, if I was the type of girl that liked to gossip, I would have quite a story to tell everyone. I think it would go a little something like this.” Lifting your hand to your mouth, you cleared your throat again and spoke in a dramatic, whimsical tone. “There I was, standing all alone in the middle of the field. It was cold, dark and I was feeling terribly faint. My vision started to blur and my legs grew weak. Then, just when I knew I couldn't carry on, mister wild showed up and rescued me. He lifted me into his strong arms and carried me all the way to safety. I probably owe my life to him now. If he hadn't shown up, I don't know what I would have done.” Smiling up at him in an obviously joking way, you wiggled your brows. “What do you think? I'm pretty sure If I told people that, there would be quite a buzz around the school.”

“Probably. It doesn't take much.” Finally taking his eyes off of the path in front of him, he looked down at you. He still looked bored and uninterested in everything around him, but there was a small, barely visible hint of curiosity in his oddly colored eyes. “You don't gossip though, right?”

“Yeah, not usually anyway. It's just not my thing.” You nodded, causing another wave of dizziness to sweep over you. “But in this case, I could probably make an exception. I think it would be worth it to gossip, just this once.” Smiling in a way that made it hard for him to tell if you were joking, or being perfectly honest with him, you raised your hand and gently placed it on his cheek. “You see, everyone needs to know what a kind gentleman you really are.”

Looking less than pleased with your response, Akatsuki slowly nodded. “Hmm, I see.” With the Headmaster's house only a few yards away, he stopped dead in his tracks, and lowered you to your feet once more. Your legs were no longer as shaky as they had been, but you still weren't sure why he'd put you down.

Confused, and instantly cold, you wrapped your arms around yourself and frowned. “What are you doing? I wasn't actually being serious, you know.” Already shivering, you inwardly scolded yourself for picking on him. “If I told anyone anything about this, we'd both end up in trouble and I'm not willing to take that chance.”

With a subtle shake of his head, Akatsuki turned on his heel and prepared to leave you behind. “I'm not taking any chances. You can walk the rest of your way yourself. It's not far.” Without saying another word, or giving you a chance to explain yourself, he began walking away, quickly disappearing in the darkness.

“Dang it.” Annoyed with what your own actions had caused, you lowered your head and sighed. “I jinxed myself again.”
