Today had been long, hard, and tiring. You were often called over to help with Ciel's parties, but today was unusually difficult and stressful. Now that the guests were leaving, and everything had calmed down, you walked outside to get a bit of fresh air. As you took in the crisp night air, all the stress from the day began to drift away. The air smelled like fresh cut grass and flowers. Suddenly, the hair on your arms stood up, a chill went up your spine. You spun around, but no one was there. “Okay, who else is out here?”

“My apologies. I didn't know you were out here, and it is rude for a man to approach a woman when she's alone. Especially in the dark.” Sebastian made his way towards you, coming only close enough so that you could see his face. “I didn't mean to frighten you.”

“It's okay.” Seeing Sebastian standing there immediately calmed you down. “What are you doing out here? I thought you'd be with Ciel.”

“Master Ciel's already in bed. I'm almost sure he's fast asleep by now. He was a little tired from the party.” He stepped a bit closer to you and continued. “I came out here to relax. It seems you had the same idea.” Sebastian gave you a warm smile and stood beside you. “The garden is very peaceful at night.”

You didn't know why, but anytime Sebastian stood this close to you, your heart would skip a beat. There was something about him that made you almost nervous, but secure at the same time. Just him being there was enough to make it hard for you to speak. “I-it is pretty nice out here, not even a little chilly.” You cleared your throat, and shifted uncomfortably. “Y-yeah, it's nice. The fountain looks really pretty with the moon reflecting on it.”

Sebastian seemed to pick up on the awkward tension immediately. “Am I making you uncomfortable? I could leave if you like.”

“No, no, you should stay. I-I'm sorry.” Your face turned bright red as you tried to think up a good reason for being so nervous and awkward. Before you had a chance to give your excuse, Sebastian spoke.

“You've been very helpful you know. Always willing to drop what you're doing for the young master. I've been thinking and I do believe, you deserve a small token of my appreciation.” Sebastian reached into his suit jacket and stepped in front of you. “I thought you might like this, it reminded me of you.” He dangled a small, but beautiful bracelet in front of you. It sparkled brightly in the moonlight, making your eyes widen. “If you don't like it, I do understand.”

“I love it. How could I not? It's absolutely beautiful.” You were so taken back by the gift, you didn’t even try to take it from him. You just stood there, eyes locked on the glittering jewels.

“Well, I'm certainly glad you do. May I?” Glad you approved of his gift, Sebastian carefully unlatched the bracelet and waited for your permission to put it on.

“Of course.” Your blush deepened as you raised your hand up to him.

Sebastian smiled and wrapped the thin bracelet around your wrist, latching it in place. He lifted your hand up to his mouth and placed a kiss on your fingers. “It suits you.” You couldn't remember Sebastian ever acting like this before. He almost seemed confused and unsure of himself, characteristics that you would never usually use to describe him. He was just standing in a partial bow while staring down at your hand. If you didn't know better, you would have thought he was nervous. “My apologies, I'm being rather rude.” Sebastian let go of your hand and stood up straight with a weak smile on his face. “I should escort you home, it's getting quite late and I'm sure you're tired.”

Before Sebastian had a chance to leave, you grasp hold of his jacket sleeve. “It's not really all that late. We could stay out here a little longer, unless you're busy or something. I don't want to keep you if you have something else you need to do.”

“No, I'm not busy. But as I've said before, it is most inappropriate for a man to be alone with a young woman, especially in the middle of the night. People could talk. I would hate it if you received a flawed reputation because of me.” He gave you a worried look, but at your request, he stayed.

“I don't care. I like being around you.” You blushed at how quickly and effortlessly the words had escaped your mouth. “Besides, I doubt my reputation is all that great anyway. Hanging out with you one night can't hurt it that much. Even if it did, I'm sure it would be worth it."

“I see.” Secretly glad to know that you enjoyed his company, Sebastian held out his hand for you. “Then shall we go for a little walk?” You gave him a happy nod and accepted his outstretched hand. The two of you walked hand in hand for a long while, in complete silence. You were a bit worried that you were making Sebastian do something he didn't want to do. “Is something the matter? You seem, distant.” Sebastian stopped walking and turned to face you, a worried look on his pale face.

“I, was just thinking...” You looked down at your feet, embarrassed that you were so easy to read. “Do you actually want, to be here?”

Confused by your question, Sebastian gently placed his thumb and forefinger on your chin, lifting it up slightly so your eyes would meet. “I can say with the utmost honesty, that there is nowhere else I would rather be right now. Nor is there a person I would rather spend my time with.” The sincerity in Sebastian’s voice kept you from doubting a single word he said. Glad that there was nothing actually wrong, he gently stroked your lips with his gloved thumb, staring down at you in a way that made your heart race once more. “I should take you home now.” Sebastian dropped his hand and smiled at you, yet there was a sadness in his voice. “I fear if you stay with me much longer, I may do something I shouldn't.” Quickly turning on his heel before he could change his mind, Sebastian began to lead you from the garden.

“Like what?” You felt stupid for asking, but the question had escaped your lips before you even had a chance to think. Your time with Sebastian had been so nice, you didn't want it to end. At least, not like this.

Standing very still, with his back to you Sebastian only shook his head. “Your curiosity may get you in trouble one day.” It took him a moment, but Sebastian turned to face you once again. He placed his hand on your cheek and gave you a weak smile. Again, your heart began to beat out of your chest. He was so close to you, you could feel his breath on your chest. You stood there, frozen as he moved even closer to you. Sebastian moved his hand from your cheek and ran it through your hair, letting it rest on the nape of your neck. Without another word, he wrapped both arms tightly around your waist and brought you into a long kiss. You could barely breath. As whole body went slack, Sebastian lifted you into his arms. “I did warn you.” He nuzzled your neck sweetly. “Your reputation will never be the same.”

You took his face in your hands and kissed him again. “You really don't need to worry about something that petty. I've told you once already, I don't care.”

Sebastian smiled happily at you. “Then I won't mention it anymore.” He pecked your cheek. “I only hope we can hide this meeting from Grell's knowledge. Otherwise, you'll never be able to sleep in peace again.”
