Description I dunno why, but to me Ultra Magnus comes across as a Shaman of one of the highest orders. I mean..honestly. If the hammer and ability to take crap doesn't scream 'THOR' and 'ODIN', what does?

If religion squeems you out you may wanna skip the rest of the Artist's comments.

Thus this image was hatched. I couldn't resist. The raven-bot things are named Thought and Memory (50 points to those who know who lent Magnus THOSE two!). I sat and wondered what would be a good totem animal for leader of the Autobots and Raven came to mind. Then the connection to Thor/Odin...yadda yadda yadda.

Then, as I was coloring everything I realized that ravens are considered shape shifters.

Magnus = shapeshifter? Someone please hit me.

There's ,ore, but these are the basics - They also symbolize messengers of the gods. They're seen as warnings of death yet are creators. As the Matrix exists in many of my fic worlds, I had to kick myself. To me, the Matrix symbolizes all these and I see Magnus as a Matrix bearer.

Mind you Raven was also a trickster who in one creation myth got too close to the sun. That's why he turned black you see. How that fits in with my fic world, I dunno.

/pagan-shaman rant

I know. I'm weird. Chalk it up to working in the religious community for 13 years and being far too much of a Fan Gurl for 27 years. **face palm**

Yeah, up until recently I didn't notice Magnus on TFA has a sort of viking hero sort of look to him. I know there aren't really any Pagan themes in the Transformers cartoons, but the old show did have a lot of environmentalism, which of course is very Pagan.

What I love about Animated is that they're always making fun of stuff in pop culture. Wish there were other ideas behind it, but, well, I won't complain. I remember when Bulkhead was painting once and Bumblebee was in this really really weird pose with a teddy bear.

That EXACT pose showed up in the Movie 'Airplane' (1980), complete with the background that Bulkhead was working on. In the movie, the main character was painting a war scene with a jeep and the model was holding a doll. The model's leg was thrown behind his neck in what, in the painting, would have been weird. But the fact it was the model's actual pose was funny as all hell

You think Ultra Magnus is dead after he was attacked by Shockwave in TFA?

I thought he was but apparently he is okay, just very very badly injured. As a result Sentinel's acting as leader for a while.

or so I understood.

Oh well, if that's the case, all they have to do now is kill Sentinel, he's useless anyway.

I wonder if we can find a rock big enough? (I'd say something but finding a way around his ego but... OUCH. That's low even for me!)

Always love some Magnus love ^^ I think he looks really great here. Never thought of him as a shaman type, but I've always thought him more faithful to a religion than any other bots (now this is G1 I'm talking about but he is the only one who says "Thanks the Matrix.") Nice job. My only little nitpick is the ravens size. Since humans fit in the hands of Transformers, these guys would be bigger than humans O.o But who am I to preach, my proportions are always terrible ^_^

LOL! Yep! I realized I made that mistake with the ravens so I went in while coloring and made 'em raven shaped mechanoids. I tried to amke them reaaaaaaally dark so people couldn't tell how half hazard my fix up would be

**Bows** And Thankies! There's going to be more 'Magnus love shortly.

I have to agree. The cape really suits Magnus too. He has this regal and very wise aura.

Indeed! I mean... he's.... I dunno. Wise, regal, someone who knows how to take crap and deal with it. There's a reason why he's head honcho.

I'm more familiar with Greek Mythology, and some Egyptian, but I do know a little Norse. LOVE applying various mythologies to stories; its an excellent idea! Heck, mythology period just facinates me. ^_^

And yeah, Ultra Magnus always came off as Thor to me, what with all that lightning and slamming of his hammer and stuff. The Odin part of him comes from him being in charge. Does he have his six-legged horse? XD

He might have 6 wheels. Does hat count?

Hm... well not quite Odin (having more than one eye and all... )) but I can definitely see where you're coming from here. It fits.
Oh, and the ravens would be a direct loan from Odin. Huginn and Muninn, naturally.

Yep **Hands out the energon cookies and points**

I'm more familiar with the egyptian pantheon and some of the cree beliefs (Manitou, the totems bear, bison, eagle, deer, otter, and potentially Grandmother Spider)

*Eats cookie* Nummy! *Collects points*

I'm not that familiar with the Egyptian pantheon, and unfortunately know almost nothing of Native American beliefs. I tend to focus my "casual studies" on Greek/Roman and Norse mythologies. To each his or her own, I suppose. Makes for interesting storytelling, though, when you base a story off of a myth of which the audience has no former knowledge.

**nods** Some of the native american myths are.. fREAKY.

There's one of a woman who had to wait for a hunting party to arrive and while she waited she got hungry. First she ate her hands... then her feet and continued until there was nothing but her head. Then she proceeded to eat everything in sight. I think the hunting party had to kill her, but don't quote me on that.

or the story of White Buffalo woman. That's a good one.

That is freaky. *Shudders* ... Then again, so is Zeus eating his kids.
