*smirk* That sounds totally awful But I have to say, movie critics do not predict my own opinion too well. When it comes to a film adaptations, people tend to use criteria which I do not share. While I appreciate convincing similarities to the book or series, they are not necessary for me. A movie is an artwork of its own, and therefore it has the freedom of interpretation
For example, the novel "The Bicentennial Man" stays incredibly close to the short story. The film in contrast is vastly different, even in the plot! Yet it manages to catch the very soul of the story, which is why I consider it a succesful adaptation On the other side I can be nitpicking enough to be displeased even with minor mistakes in "Harry Potter" (like McGonagall not wearing squared glasses), because the movie crew actually seemed to have the standard to include the details of the book. However, not every adaptation tries to achieve this goal.
Regarding "Last Airbender", the critic that contributed most to prevent me from going into the theatres was that it does not contain an ounce of the humour of the series. And the humour is its very heart of the series, in my opinion! But I perfectly understand how seemingly nonsensical changes frustrate, and I fail to see the sense in pronouncing the names differently or saving on bending. I wonder how much the original creators were involved in the filmmaking?
