This really captures the sheer HORROR of Lovecraft's creations. Gonna be having nightmares about these massive, pulsating monstrosities...

They were -neutral- in alignment, when judged by human standards pf good & evil and order & chaos. They ruled earth aeons ago, but became extinct when the Blind Ones made a final war on the Great Race. the Great Race sent their best minds fofrward in time, not to take our bodies over (for 2 reasons *) ,but ,rather, the bodies of the Great Beetles, an insectoid species that follows mankind on earth.
Lovecraft said that man is ephemeral, transient in the cosmic scheme of things. There were peoples before mankind and there will be peoples after mankind. OUR end is not, however, anywheres near...
* The Blind Ones would still be a threat in our time, tho extinct by the time of the Great Beetles. Also we humans are too short lived.Β
