Description
It was a chilly autumn day, and Sloan sat in the shade of a tree outside the Nook. The leaves were red and gold, probably because they were dying, Sloan reflected. They didn't care much for autumn - however, they were looking forward to winter. They stretched out, yawning widely. Maybe they should take a nap.
Ama happily hopped out of the Nook. The wind blowing into her fur made her smile with glee. It was such wonderful weather. She spotted a familiar face under the shade of a tree. She smiled, happily hopping over to them, "Sloooan!" She yelled.
Sloan startled out of their daze, seeing a familiar rosy gro in front of them. "Oh hi, Amaryllis," they answered in response. Why was she talking to them? She always seemed so upbeat and cheerful - their exact opposite.
Ama sat next to Sloan, rolling over a bit closer to them. "Whatcha doing?" She smiled, excitedly. Sloan was always doing something so cool, she just had to know!
"Nothing much," they mumbled. "I was just sitting here - and thinking stuff - but it isn't very important." They never seemed to be doing anything important.
"Are yaa suuure??? Everything is important to me!!" She cheered happily, wagging her tail.
"It was just about the weather." They shrugged, slightly uncomfortable. They'd tried to draw a picture of one of the trees earlier, but it hadn't come out right - but they refrained from mentioning that. No one knew they liked to draw, and they wanted to keep it that way.
"ooooh!! Tell me! Tell me! I love the weather!" Her eyes lit up with excitement. "I won't tell anyone!"
"I just...." they began, trying to think of what to say. "I don't... think it's too bad," they finished, surprising themself. "It's nice when it's this chilly - it feels good after summer's heat."
"It is!! It's the best time for sweater weather, and people being comfy and having fun in the leaves" Ama rambled on about the weather. It was her favorite thing to talk about.
"Sweaters are nice too," they agreed. And leaves were fun to draw. But they didn't tell her that.
Ama agreed. "I wish I could make sweaters! I can give them out to all my friends! Especially you!' She smiled.
Sloan's eyes widened with surprise. "I'm your..friend?" they asked hesitantly. No one had ever called them that before. They felt a weird sensation in their chest - kind of warm and soft, like.. like sweaters.
"Yeah, of course!!" She smiled! "My bestest friend!!"
"Wow, really?" They blinked in astonishment. Surely a gro like Ama would have better friends than them. "You're my bestest friend too, then," they responded, trying to smile. It hurt their face and they winced, muttering "sorry."
Ama patted Sloan's cheeks. "It's okay! Everyday, I'll teach how to be smile! Until you can do it on your own! I know you can do it" She looked into his eyes, smiling happily.
Sloan couldn't help but smile in return. It didn't hurt as much this time. "Thank you," they said, gratitude warming their voice. They were surprised to find that they really, truly meant it.
