Idk, I thought the way everything went down was very interesting. I thought the characters had good arcs and it was exciting to see them afterwards.Β
I'm trying really hard not to give any spoilers here bc I know season 8 *just* came out

I thought S8 could've been REALLY great (I loved where they ended it) but they needed more episodes/exposition to establish what was going on by the end, and they forgot to tie up some loose ends. I always felt like after S2 they were rushing it so it wasn't as well written unfortunately; the show always had tone issues (really light comedic moments directly after serious ones) but then the pacing also started going a bit wonkyΒ Β
Despite this I am still absolutely obsessed; I managed to get my entire family and half of my friends hooked xD

I haven't rewatched, but yeah. Even small things, like writing more clues/payoffs for when Shiro was replaced with a clone to bridge the massive stretch of time before the end of S2 to the end of S6, giving more time for the Lance/Allura relationship to develop, or making the sequence where Lotor almost destroyed reality more visually similar to the S8 finale would've gone a long way.
Honestly, the S8 finale was such a mess, but it didn't have to be.Β We just needed a couple more episodes explaining the mechanics of the universe (for example, is the centre of all reality the quintessence realm?), an end to Lotor's arc (where did he go?), and a resolution for Allura allowing herself to be possessed by the entity (did she need to expel it?).
If I were part of the team I would have suggested some larger changes as well, for example killing off Lance during the episode in S8 where they entered Honerva's mind. They were fighting that whole episode, but the stakes didn't feel high at all. Killing Lance would've first of all destroyed my soul but second of all provided a payoff for Shiro's warning of "if you fight her in there, you can't win"-- another writing error; how was everyone so chill about Allura being possessed?--, upped the stakes, and also allowed the entity to have greater power over Allura. Allura would've then had an arc mirroring Honerva's in that she had to overcome the darkness and move on in order to save the universe, which would've given that last scene with her greater emotional intensity because she did it, she defeated the darkness! She needn't die, either; just have her cleanse Honerva and then have Honerva save the universe alone as atonement for being a villain the ENTIRE SHOW.
(I better stop ranting, oops)
It's such a testament to the characters/character dynamics of the show that it's still so addictive despite these problems, though! I sobbed my eyes out with happiness when the end rolled by; especially when I saw the group photo of them when they were older xD

(haha sorry for sending such a long rant; my family is tried of hearing me obsess over Voltron xD)
I mean, to be fair to the writers, killing off Lance (or any other paladin) before the last episode would've caused a lot of problems when it came to forming Voltron again. I'm still convinced that with planning ahead it could be resolvable, though: for example, build up Veronica more as a character (she was great in S7 but then kind of just disappeared by the end of S8... could she be Voltron mom along with Shiro as Voltron dad? xD Not as a ship though, aah) and have her beg the red lion to let her pilot it just once to finish what her brother started. Surely part of Lance's soul would still be in the red lion (just as the black lion retained Shiro's) so he could help her not only pilot it but maintain a link with the other paladins; then it isn't straying into Mary Sue territory with random characters being able to form Voltron immediately with the established paladins and Allura and the others actually get to say goodbye to him in the final episode.
I just want to know what happened behind the scenes that the geniuses behind the series stumbled like this xD

Season 8 was well done and well put together (despite no Klance, but thatβs okay). It left me in an emotional wreck, but again thatβs okay.
I finally finally finished the entire timeline for my OC so now I feel comfortable finishing art for her and writing about it and stuff.
