Description I believe that this is a Huntsman spider, which came to visit while we were watching TV. She is harmless to humans but probably scary to those who don't like spiders. Her body was about the size of my thumb, although they can grow much bigger.

Well, my knowledge about Australian nature wanders around marsupians and things-that-may-kill-you-in-very-painful-way.

. I suppose you know that Australia is a HUGE continent.Β Where I liveΒ in North Queensland, we are 2060 kms away from Sydney, 2600 kms away from Melbourne, 5122 kms away from Perth and 2500 kms away Β from Darwin. As you can imagine there are many different climates, and so, many different plants and wildlife

Well, I know about that Australia is big and had many different environments. I mainly heard about deserts, the bush(es?), mountains, tropical rainforests, areas near to seas and coral reefs.

Yes, they're probably the interesting parts . Then there are the cities, but cities are cities wherever you go I guess.

we live on a tropical island about 8 kms off the coast where the City of Townsville is. The Great Barrier reef is just off the coast here. There are a colony of Koalas that live on the island. 90% of the island is World Heritage because of the reef.

From what I see in web, most of the island is a National Park. Sounds like an interesting place to live in.

Yes Krystian - a beautiful place to live. We are originally from the NE of England so know other places and this is like another world

There are differences and similarities. There are different trees and animals... but still these are trees and animals!
I think that we, Polish people too little appreciate our interesting and beautiful places. But it doesn't change the fact I'd love to see more of the world.

It seems that very often we don't appreciate the place that we know> I know now that there are places where I was brought up that I never visited and I regret that

Spiders are very beneficial and get a bad rap!Β  That being said, no, I don't want them on me!!!!Β  But I don't think that they want to be on us either!Β

Very cool shot!Β  I love your presentation of it here!

Here in the States we have a bad guy that we must watch out for called the Brown Recluse.Β  It hides in dark places like garages, etc.Β  If it bites you, it's bad news!!!!Β  Sadly, he is around my area so I do keep my eyes open....Β

Isn't it though!!!!Β  I guess they have to make up for that small size with the deadliest venom!Β

Yes, that could be it. We have one caled the Red Back. It's about the size of you're smallest finger's nail but can kill or make you very very sick.

Ah, yes.Β  I looked that one up.Β  It's a relative of one we have in the States called the Black Widow.Β  I made the connection when I saw that red hourglass on her.Β  Here in the States, that red hourglass is on the underside of the spider!!Β  Nasty little girls!

Yes, they are. Some years ago I was cleaning our outside area and turned a chair upside down to find a few of them there quite at home .
Needless to say, unfortunately as I don't usually like killing anything, they were sent to a better place :/

I have a BIG fear of spiders....
Not only because they look creepy but I have gotten bit by a spiderΒ when I was a kid.Β
My hand got really swollen and I felt dizzy.
Fantastic shot, ann.
It's good to know this spider is harmless.
