Gouache on paper, 15,5 x 26 cm

This illustration was made as part of an assignment. The theme was Slovenian myths and fairytales and I chose a a story about a golden bird that stole golden apples from the kings garden each night.
Eventually, the king was forced to send his sons to look for the bird, but since the older brothers were greedy, only the youngest was able to find it. After he completed his quest, he became king and
a mermaid his queen.

I really like birds of paradise, phoenixes and peacocks so the Golden Bird is a kind of a hybrid between all of those.
