Range: Very active in India, Nepal and Tibet. But still have a wide range; Have range in China, many parts of southeast Asia (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Laos, phillipines and Java). Range maybe in Korea and Japan.

Although this mythological creature originated in India but it appeared at least twice in China folklore cultures.

It appeared as one of the 4 heavenly kings (Guang Mu Tian Wang) or Thao Wirupak in Thai or Virūpākṣa in Sanskrit. He's the heavenly king of the west. He owned nagas. In Journey of the West, one of his naga was written to have a fierce one to one battle with Monkey King Wukong during his havoc at the celestial palace. The naga was proven not Wukong's match. It even almost got killed by Wukong.

The dragon third crown prince of the Western Sea who transformed into a white dragon horse to let Tripitaka to ride on in Journey to the West was promoted into a naga as a reward when he and the rest reach their destination to get the scriptures. In this, nagas is the highest order or sort of an achievement a dragon could obtain in Asian Mythology. Nagas are often seen a guardian beast for buddhist temple or even for the buddha himself.

In the creative ascept, It could be draw cobra like or viper like. I see cobra version will be too southeast asian. The viper was took reference from temple viper.
