Description

I haven't drawn him since january 2017 and boy a lot changed in my style since then. Glad to be able to draw him again!
Also.. yeah.. i thought slicking his hair back when he wears goggles would make it easier on me, but now he looks even more like Jack Spicer

Update [7 jan. 2018]: I changed his hair color cause i was toying with hues out of curiosity and i liked it! It makes me think of honey.

◣          Personal Information

PERSONALITY :

[Positive] Witty | Humorous | Social | Confident | Smart | Persuasive
[Negative] Coward | Petty | Sly | Selfish | Brazen | Fraudulent

    Skaven is a mechanical genius who spends most of his time tinkering and toying with various devices. He uses his intellect and wit to persuade people into getting what he wants and often smooth talks his way out of trouble. There is no ill will at play, though his selfishness makes him rather indifferent, as long as he achieves his goals. He is open to making new acquaintances and gathering information about his environment and the people inhabiting it, to aid him in case he ever needs anything. Confident in his skills and abilities, Skaven doesn't stray from gloating every now and again, which can sometimes hinder him.

HISTORY :

    Skaven was born in a normal family, having no siblings and two parents who were too busy working to spend time with him. He didn't mind their absence all that much though. Succumbing into the art of tinkering from a small age, he started off with little toys he made out of wood or spare junk and grew up to be able to understand more intricate schematics.

    Even though his parents didn't give him much affection, they still provided a healthy learning environment for Skaven, making sure their son received proper education in the field he was passionate about. This lack of attention is perhaps the reason why he is selfish or puts himself before others.

    Now he has his own workshop where he either tinkers or works as a mechanic for people. He enjoys his life and independency but has yet to learn to properly establish connections with people.

LIKES :
Mechanisms, machines, robots, clockworks, cigarettes, foxes, engineering, pocket watches, money, afternoons, watching sunsets;

DISLIKES : Coffee, conflict (unless it doesn't involve him), dangerous situations, responsibilities, chores;

◣         Additional Information

  • Usually goes by his family name (Skaven), although he doesn't mind being called Nikola;
  • Is kind of a scammer;
  • Cowers his way out of threatening situations;
  • Uses his appeal and silver tongue to influence people;

Especially in the smile on the headshot! Plus the colour scheme, those are very wise design decisions.

Thank you so much! I just base them off of what i like generally! I always wanted to be able to draw nice folds and textures for clothes, so i struggled to learn that!

Ahh man I got so many OCs I gotta revamp too >.< I got a few ideas in mind though! My favorite one is about a Druid c:

what inspired you for his theme?? .o. I can imagine him having a lil fox robot pet

Vanzish In reply to Rainsets [2018-01-06 13:38:50 +0000 UTC]

Ah i like druids!

The first inspiration was Jack Spicer from Xiaolin Showdown.. then as i worked on the character i think it was during the time i talked about it with Rea and somehow came to the idea that he's very fox-like because of his slyness and then appearance as in shifty eyes and slightly pointy ears. Also, i love steampunk~

Actually, funny enough, he builds a robo chicken-

I haven’t done many Druid characters so I’m excited for this one ^u^

haha xiaolin show down was an awesome show : D and oooh I seeeee, I like how you expanded off the Fox aspect and made it show in his appearance : 3

what really? Why?

Vanzish In reply to Rainsets [2018-01-06 19:07:46 +0000 UTC]

Ah good luck with it, it's fun to work with fantasy elements!

It's one of my favorite shows! And thanks, i like to explore this aspect, makes me think of fables I've read~

Hm.. i think the idea came from world of warcraft with the mechanical chicken.. i just thought a robo chicken named Clock (similar to the sound they make 'cluck') would be really fun!

I shaaall : D

ive been learning more about fable aspects recently, it’s interesting how humanity attempts to explain how things happen. How crazy it gets too

omg yes, that’s pretty cleaver; I’ve always admired your play on words

Vanzish In reply to Rainsets [2018-01-06 21:40:19 +0000 UTC]

I've read a lot of fables as a kid, my grandma would actually read me one every day before lunch from a book i still have. They're a nice way of teaching people what's morally right and wrong and their fantastic nature makes them easy to remember!

Ahh thanks~ ;v;

Rainsets In reply to Vanzish [2018-01-06 22:44:34 +0000 UTC]

Man that sounds pretty cool : D do you still remember a few?

The stories id get told were from my fairy book and these picture books for kids that were kinda like comics

you’re talented at it! Easily able to beat me at a game of witty word play

Vanzish In reply to Rainsets [2018-01-06 22:49:29 +0000 UTC]

I do actually! They're short. One that always pops in my head right away is the one about the fox who couldn't reach the grapes and in order to feel better about it said that it wasn't worth it anyway cause the grapes were raw.

Ahh i appreciate the compliment! It's just a fun challenge to think of word play!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rainsets In reply to Vanzish [2018-01-06 23:08:41 +0000 UTC]

Huh I like that one too, got anymore?

how did you start at word play?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vanzish In reply to Rainsets [2018-01-06 23:23:04 +0000 UTC]

Plenty, there's the famous one about the raven who has a piece of cheese in its beak and the fox comes to it and asks it to sing because it has a beautiful voice, but upon doing so the raven drops the cheese and the fox steals it and runs away. There's one with a dog that has a bone and sees his own reflection in the water but thinks it's a different dog with a bigger bone so he plunges to grab it and drops his bone in the process, losing it to the river.

Romanian is a language that allows for a lot of word play, we can easily toy with meanings that have ambiguity, there are a lot of homonyms and homographs and I've always liked that. I like that English allows word play with such ease too!

Rainsets In reply to Vanzish [2018-01-07 16:48:49 +0000 UTC]

The first one I’m still trying to figure out the meaning behind it, is it that people will flatter you to get what they what? The second one I think I might’ve heard before but is the meaning that dissatisfaction and chasing illusions results in losing what you already have?

Ah man I wish I knew what you’re talking about but I don’t >~< can you give an example?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vanzish In reply to Rainsets [2018-01-07 17:55:33 +0000 UTC]

First one is about foolish people letting others profit off of them because they stroke their egos and the second is about greed, it's a lesson on being happy with what you have and not craving for what others have.

I mean we have a lot of words that are written or sound the same way but have different meanings so it's easy to play with the words, which you have in English too, such as 'knight' and 'night'.

Rainsets In reply to Vanzish [2018-01-07 19:34:42 +0000 UTC]

Dang your fables are really cool : D they tell legitimate lessons. I mostly grew up with like the boy who cried wolf

oh-OH that hah yes! Like there and their, were and we’re, I see what you mean. When you joke around with word play then do you do things like puns or?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vanzish In reply to Rainsets [2018-01-07 20:16:54 +0000 UTC]

Oh we have that one too, with the boy who cried wolf!

Yeah, they're pretty much like puns i'd say!

Glad to see that you're using Skaven for the group~ Especially since it's been so long since you've had him in one! Hopefully this gives you a chance to develop him more, so I'm excited to see that!!!

Ahhhhh and nice job with the headshot, full body, and side view! wheeezeeee you worked so hard on this and finished it all almost in one sitting. I'm so proud of you ahhhhhh~

I have old characters that i'll put in my comic but not use much outside, but even so i like their concept and getting a chance to draw them more is always a plus, so i'm looking forward to that!

i'm honestly still surprised i managed to sketch these (and most of the full body) directly on the PC. That side view was just me fooling around and i never expected something nice to come out of it! But noted, big canvases make for nice drawings!

Someone had to say it and you bet your pretty face i'll always be here to insult my own characters-
