A few years ago my sister-inlaw got engaged. I've always been close to her fiance, we're like brothers. Anyways as like a Bachelor Bro Day, I set up a tuna fishing trip for him. Me, Him, and 2 of his other buddies got on a charter out of San Diego to go after some yellowfin tuna. They took us out about 10 miles and we weren't finding ANYTHING AT ALL after about 4 hours. So we go to the captain and ask him if we can move elsewhere, to which he politely obliged. He took us out another almost 40 miles. We get on a new spot and we all end up landing fish and enjoying fresh sashimi as they cut and package the rest for us to take home. Another 4 hours go by and cap tells us its time to turn back. Its about 6pm now, the suns going down and the winds picking up. The weather keeps picking up, faster winds, larger waves, and the rain was blowing sideways. I'd never been in a situation like this before. Instead of being downstairs in the boat with everybody else, in fresh dry clothes, eating a hamburger prepared by our awesome cook, I found myself somewhere else entirely. Alone on the deck, I sat down in a deck chair that was bolted to the floor and secured myself to it. I pulled out some of Those Hippie Calories (THC) and lit em up. Hit after hit it starts to sink in. I'm seeing waves larger than a 3 story parking garage come up and go down. I'm being pelted with rain and getting whipped with the wind. Its pitch black outside and we still cant see land. It hit me in that moment. I've never ever in my life felt so small before, so utterly insignificant in comparison to the beauty I'm seeing in this storm, I'm just a speck. Getting thru it the way I did and seeing what I saw just reinforced my belief in God. Something that beautiful and dangerous and being able to get out of it safely couldn't just be something that "naturally occurs" but has to be by intelligent design by the God of the heavens.
