Description More playing with my small cluster of traditional mediums. This time it was my slightly larger than normal Prismacolor pencil crayon set (it's a standard 60 box set padded off with several individually bought colors). Pencil crayons are the most commonly used traditional media, period. They're widely available, very cheap and their quality varies just as much as the varying skill levels of those who use them. Like markers, pencil crayons mix rather poorly and a person usually needs the large sets to make for anything decent. Most people who use them do basic two tone, light coloring at most, which allows for basic color variation. This sounds like pencil crayon usage taboo, but I'm the hard scribbler and the Prismas (being that they're rather waxy) are very good for it.

So, aside the fact that the 60 set doesn't offer a good skin shadow tone (best one is the bronze, ironically, but it blends badly), and that I may never figure out a way to get around the muddy mess it delivers when it comes to shading skin well, at least the hair and blue turned out okay. Aside the bg, everything is full on hard, waxy mixing goodness. The stuff that I wish more people were doing. The blue is not the product of cotton balls and pencil crayon shavings to imitate pastels... I've seen people do that, and I still think it's the stupidest, and most wasteful, uncontrolled method I've seen (aside blending all your colors with white!). Pencil lightly, grab a really hard, pink eraser (like the horribly bad ones they use on oldschool pencils that never can erase anything), and smudge away.

Art lessons aside, simple self portrait of my "persona" (only recognizable with the VLK pendant over not). Being Vaporeon Lugia Krabby also comes with a very northern Pacific, West Coast flare. I really miss the ocean, so explains for the large amounts of blue to reflect the daydreamy state over how much I loathe Poland over my beautiful BC. (Apologies to my Polish watchers, but a.) there is no place like home and b.) I come from Vancouver. On a competetive scale of Vancouver versus desireability of any Polish city well... Let's put it this way, immigration in Vancouver is very, very high.)

Just lil' ol' me.
Variety is the spice of life. My skills would be a bit better if it weren't for that.

Saying that would basically imply that just the pendant looks nice. I really need to get that thing, then it wouldn't be a 'persona' it would be legitimate, since as it stands, that is the only thing that isn't legit.

Wow, colored pencils? Nicely done, VLK, and I find the dusty, painting-like aspect rather appealing!

Last time I used those was for a poster which was years ago. Unfortunately there are some things about this technique wise that show how rusty I am.

For sure, I'll be posting something with my remaining medium, the colored inks but that might not be for a little bit of time.
