Her note reads: "Sono una nonna" which I roughly translated to "(I) am a grandma". I don't know what the rest reads, but I was walking through Milan and saw her. She was folded up, so small. All these glamorous people walking around her and she's left to begging near a cathedral.Translation thanks to ~lorenzoblu .

the scene is so moving, i love it, especially the way you have combined her plain and simple nature with the chaos of the city behind her. You have captured the truth of the scene so perfectly, her pain and suffering contrasted by the indifference of the populus, and the fact that it is all happening right befor the cathedral shows her reliance on God to provide, even when nobody else seems to care. In this you have captured the faith of an old woman in the midst of the uncaring society as she turned to the Lord to provide. This is simply amazing.

To be honest with you... I had a good time, except when I was sitting on the curb retrieving something from my backpack. Some teenager walked by and threw a piece of crumpled paper on me. Then stopped, staired, obviously waiting for me to start something with him. I just staired, and eventually he lost interest.
Starting a fight with numerous others in a foreign country isn't a good idea. Especially when you're American. Plus, I'm not a fighter. Never been in one, don't plan to start.
