I heard a story while in Palermo of a golden archway through which a certain young wizard once passed and did not return except that three hundred years later he was reborn as a swine herder's son who grew into one of the mighty men of olden times, a great hunter of monsters, who had one wife and nine children who all lived to ripe old ages, and never was heard among them an evil word, nor did they beg bread in the streets in good times or bad.
