I found this picture a while back, but never really commented on it since you had so much already. I thought it would be cool to reproduce the effect in a painting. XD I do find it quite hard because there is so much detail, but I'm sure with the right techniques and tools it will be easier.

It's going to be a part of the front image on my hard-cover sketchbook for school. I have a fun little design to go with it, so I hope it works well. Hope you don't mind.

I don't think i've seen any urban-minimalism from you before. I'm impressed I love the textures you've been able to get and the different shades of green are awesome. The composition is really nice too, with the canvas divided on the third and the bit of gold to add a strong focal point to it all. Really nicely done

thanks! it's something that i've always enjoyed..and it takes me back to my roots from when i grew up in the industrial belt back in ohio...the landscape there was wonderfully industrial.......but strangely, i don't have a whole lot of urban textures around me here, and it drives me crazy, because i miss it......but i've finally found a few spots and so i'm hoping to get loads more

ladyofthemyst [2005-05-25 22:36:17 +0000 UTC]

I love it, but I think that it needs a little sharpening and a tiny bit of contrast. The crack isn't quite black on my screen

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vcrimson In reply to ladyofthemyst [2005-05-26 09:23:12 +0000 UTC]

thank you very much for the comment! the full sized image is much sharper, i'm pleased to say.....sadly,quite a lot of detail is lost when shrinking it down from 3000 some odd pixels down to 700.....even using unsharp mask...it just can't make up for all that compression...not without getting that crazy glow around the details.....as for the contrast, it is pretty contrasty on both of my monitors....i use a flat screen at home, and so things are naturally more contrasty on it...but i've looked at it on the CRT at work too, and it still looks pretty contrasty to me....so it's probably down to the difference in our monitor settings....I have mine configured to match the colour profile of the company that does my photo printing, so your monitor is undoubtedly set up differently
also, the crack shouldn't be totally black on your screen....there is some tiny detail in there....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ladyofthemyst In reply to vcrimson [2005-05-26 20:46:01 +0000 UTC]

Darn. I cannot see the tiny details

I hate the monitor problem. Mine is very different from everyone elses it seems. I edit pics and they look perfect to me, but when I see them on other computers they are lacking contrast, the colours look faded, and area that I thought were solid black look noisey. It's so frustrating!

It is a beautiful beautiful picture. I'm going to look at the other comments now to see if you have posted what it is
