This work is loosely based on the Renaissance work "The School of Athens" by Raphael.
I'm really not much of an artist, so a few of the poses are direct vectors from screenshots I took of the show and few are compilations of poses in order to achieve the one I needed, with some modifications to make everything fit.

(Not-so-interesting facts! I used over 1,000 reference screenshots and used over 50,000 nodes, most of which were individually placed!)
There are many hidden objects in this image, and one secret pony! Roseluck is somewhere in the image, but you'll need to look really really close to find her!
Version 2.0 - In preparing some of the ponies to be individually uploaded I made some updates and corrections throughout the image. In total there are about 200 minor updates and fixes. Most of them are very small, but together I think they make a large update. Remember, the high res is meant for posters/printing. Check out the wallpaper res (linked above) for computer use!

Oh my god, this is the greatest crossover ever! My two biggest loves are philosophy (and I'm particularly fond of Plato within that) and ponies. And this has both, and all of it and it is amazing! The second I saw it I recognised it as 'The School of Athens' with Plato and Aristotle replaced by Celestia and Luna. You have done a fantastic job and made my day. I won't be able to convert version 2 to a accurate SVG file; after examining the version 2 AI, I see that you used double clipping masks for the eyes, which is perfectly fine. However, when Illy saves the file as SVG and you attempt to open the SVG in Inkscape or Illy, the clipping masks break, resulting in deformed eyes. Also, Inkscape can open AI files, so there's really no need for the SVG.

I love the CMCs, Cherilee, Dash and Twi in the bottom corner and I'm going to have to go back and look at all the details when I'm not so tired
(I hate to say this, but, Octavia's cutie mark is mirrored or at least its the wrong way around for a treble clef - sorry if I'm wrong :S)

I believe it should be correct to the show. In the screen shot I found the small tail of the treble faced towards her head, and I believe cutie marks are typically mirrored on each side (for example Rainbow Dash's lightning bolt is always pointing towards her tail regardless of the side it is on) I could also be wrong however and I'm certainly not a music expert. It would make sense for hers to be always right reading as it is something that is read a certain way, like a letter and not a symbol that can be flipped.

It seems that pony logic beats real world logic in this case. To be honest, I did forget about the cutie mark mirroring (lesson: don't post when you can barely stay awake!).
Given the fantastic level of detail in this picture I shouldn't have questioned your research though

Questioning is good! I love questions! I love to talk about ponies and vectoring too. There are plenty of mistakes in the image. I won't go pointing them out, but there are some things that I've noticed that I would like to fix. I have to move on from it though, because I'll always be able to find something to change and if I don't then I'll just be stuck on this image forever. As they say, no work ever finished, only abandoned.
