Description I could not imagine a world without light and even in it's most simplistic form, it reveals beauty from the dark.

Prop Created in Hexagon, image rendered in Poser, Photoshop for the finish.

Special shout out to Ghostman2007 for helping me understand the light emitter concept in Poser. ♥

I voted this as my choice for the artist-guild image of the month. I love the creative use of light here and the way that light effectively creates the shadows and color tones of the character. I also think her eyes look amazing. Nice work!

You're very welcome! I appreciate 3D art that goes outside the norm, and you have certainly accomplished that. For the poll, your image was a very easy choice for me

You do have a distinctive style in your renders in particular I've noticed your creative use of light yet you keep it authentic and believable. Since I started going back to school, I have gone through some rather harsh critiques, both on the giving and receiving ends. It's taught me a lot, as well as causing me to pay attention to the little details like the color of a light matching the actual source of that light.

For me personally, every time I look at my own gallery, I end up deleting stuff that strikes me as too poser-esque, that at one time seemed to fit what a lot of artists do with those tools, but just doesn't quite cut it for me anymore.

Not that I'm all knowing, I'm most certainly still learning, in fact looking at your gallery I suspect you have much more experience than I do, because I do very appreciate the work that you are doing.

Knowing I made your day, certainly makes my day!

Well thank you! And would you believe that Luminous Flux actually has no lights at all? The prop itself, is something I made in Hexagon, it is a peace sign, and while you cannot see it, I thought it would make an excellent prop with the use of the light emitter feature. It is so cool! I can tell you though, I have spent many many days with images trying to get the lighting just right, and it can surely be a challenge! And like you say, the critiques can be harsh however it is an excellent way to learn if you have the right attitude, and that is what drives us to learn more! So eat up those critiques and use them to your advantage. Seems to me that you already are

I know what you mean about the "poser-esque" look, I try to stay away from that as well, sometimes I even turn pieces into oils just to see how they stand up, and over time, I've actually found a couple of favorites!

Thank you for taking the time, I really do appreciate that!

You're so welcome! Actually I am familiar with using luminous effects for lighting. I learned to do it as a technique for setting up global illumination. I have used it with like a plane and using it as a bounce light. Also using a sphere around the entire scene produces a very diffused lighting effect. In both Cinema 4D and Maya you would just create a material and then turn on the luminous channel, then add the material to the object.

I had no idea you could also do this in Poser. In fact about a week or so ago I was playing with some lighting techniques in Poser and wanted to use it, but there was no luminous channel in the materials, or at least I was looking in the wrong place lol

I am very happy to have met you

Ahh see you are already familiar! As for poser, it is a new feature in Poser 2012, I had been trying for years to do something similar with previous versions of Poser and finally they added the Light Emitter feature, I'm having a blast with it!

A pleasure to have met you as well.

No wonder I couldn't find it, I have Poser 2010. I don't remember if I said this before, but I am discovering that Poser is a lot more powerful than a lot of people realize. Now if they could fix the interface so that it wasn't so quirky, that would be a good thing

I year ya there! The one thing I don't like about Poser 2012 is the separate library. It now opens up in it's own window, I use "deskpins" to keep it visible while I am using it but I find it really annoying. Other people really dig it though. It's just the one thing I don't like about it LOL. At least the interface is a little customizable but I am still tinkering with mine to get it the way I like it.

Really interesting & realistic expression and mood on your character. Really love it. The light effects around the countour of the hands and arms is so cool! Is it subsurface scattering?

I can't think of any right off the bat because it is so easy to use, I think for the most part it is the feature to just explore and let your mind go wild. There are so many possibilities!
