Repousse reincarnation - Viking copper artifacts, I thought my days of metal embossing were over but I'm doing it again. Pain in my wrist has made it impossible to do metal work for the last couple years but for the last couple weeks, I've been experimenting with thicker metal and my wrist is handling it so far. I know that sounds strange but when I worked with the thin brass, I had to use a lot of direct hand pressure to press the shapes into the metal with the tools and that was becoming too painful. Now I'm using repousse pitch and thicker metal, and now I strike the tools with a hammer instead of constantly pressing down on them with my hand. I am an amateur at embossing metal with pitch and hammers so I have a lot to learn but I'm happy to be working with metal again.
These are my first few copper repoussé pieces. I'm starting out with simple technics but I hope to improve my skills with time. These designs don't represent anything specific other than Thor's Hammer and my appreciation for Norse art but they were all inspired by original Viking art. Denmark will always be in my blood.
