I must admit that I don't know. I only know it has been translated to several languages... in India. (the novel is originally written in Bengali. )
But it can be likely it's been translated, you know, the movie made a very big success and it has been nominated to Cannes once. I should try sites like Amazon. Perhaps, it can be found there.
Another thing that doesn't happen in the novel - I heard Chandramukhi and Paro never met each other.
Though that's another thing I loved in the movie. Paro and Chandramukhi are much stronger than Devdas. Paro - who used to be vain and over-confident - turns to be a very great friend. Although, Devdas had a very sad death - all on his own with nobody he loved by his sides. I've always wondered how Paro ends after Devdas's death.
In fact, all the main characters in this movie end all by themselves.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali (Devdas's director) have almost every of his movies based on a novel (except for Black which is based on Helen Keller's life - a stunning movie too. Very particular, no dances, no songs - which is logical as the heroine is deaf and blind.) and he always made them according to his own view. That can be criticized but his films are masterpieces.
