Description Birthday card for my Gran, I tried to use colours to match her sitting room so she can put it up on the wall without it clashing!

As she is a fellow fan of costume dramas I thought I'd draw a nice 1830s style dress, I've had 1830s costume on the brain ever since we got some gorgeous printed cottons in the shop last week. Since I haven't time to make one of these dresses, the next best thing is to draw one!

The dress is based on several existing 1830s dresses from various books.

The fabric pattern is by ~Zebii .

I don't have any doubt that your grandma liked it.

Aw wow you have a brilliant choice in fabrics @___@
The soft brown look and the slight traces of pink on the skin really add a nice realism feel to it
Plus, the hair is gorgeous.

Thank you! I always try to include a bit of realism as I think the rest of my style is quite stylised and I like to try and balance that out a bit.

And I cannot draw a big enough heart around hairstyles from this period!!

Beautiful! I love the pattern and the peachy softness.

Lol I also adore the fact that you tried to match the colors to your Gran's sitting room. ^_^

Out of curiousity, would this be a costume of the upper, middle, or lower class? (I was thinking middle?)

Yep, you're correct in thinking middle class!

Haha, even though I draw more upper class stuff, I like mddle class dress best; it's a nice blend of fashion and practicality. I love upper class dress, but it usually looks like it would be almost impossible to wear!

Lovely! I really like the muted peachy colors of that era. They compliment skin tones very nicely.

Thanks, I love muted, 'vintage' inspired colour schemes!
