Description Green Veined White (Pieris napi) butterfly feeding on Cuckoo flower. Derbyshire, England. April 19th 2017.

I'm so pleased with how this turned out, the detail is pretty amazing for a non-SLR shot. The background was naturally out of focus too providing the perfect foil for the subject.

May I take a moment of your time?

You see... I had the featured folder created for me to show off our awesome group, by our founder. Β It was OK... Β but I wanted more.... Therefore, after negotiations, The Founder agreed to allow the BEST of the BEST Folder.

So what's the difference?

I have free reign in both folders, with the Featured Folder as many as I want... and the BEST of the BEST limited to only 20 per month, which will be posted on the first Friday of each month.

Nothing like extreme competition, especially against yourself. Β

Yes, what's so lovely is to see detail that you just don't get to see in the wild. The fringe, eyes and antennae here are fantastic. I'm so happy with how this came out!

I've tried with my DSLR with a macro lens on to get an awesome shot like this but with zero success!

Me too! It doesn't make any sense! I have a Nikon DSLR (which is a bit old now) but I have two cracking macro and zoom lenses for it. I've never had much luck either.

I can only conclude that maybe having a compact camera that I can take with me everywhere (unlike my DSLR kit which is big, heavy and awkward) gives me many more spontaneous opportunities to get a good shot. Also, it's such fun to use and really easy to try different settings that I can experiment with different settings for the same subject, giving me yet more chances for a good/sharp/detailed picture.

Whatever. I'm enjoying every outing now with my new toy and it really has reivigorated my interest in photography.

I am going to have to look into a camera like you are using now.
I too am frustrated with my DSLR at the moment. But the weather is good again so I need to get out and get shooting. LOL
