Description Who am I to draw up from this weary mind
and proclaim its labors to be clever or novel?
I am a stranger in a world of ash and dust.
Every song has been sung and faded;
Every poet's pen runs dry.
Every lover, every enemy, every heart begging repose
Has fulfilled its time in this space
And poured out its entirety for generations to come
(or at least this was the intention;
we are often lost in translation).

So, who am I to produce a creation borne of experiences worn and clichΓ©?
Who are we--
each and every one, so anomalous to have this time to live--
Who are we to entwine our sorrows with sorrows long forgotten?
Who are we to dip our pen in the pain
poured from a late lover's heart,
Or fold ourselves intimately into the arms
of those who knew our lives
Before we came into this world?

I love this. I really do. I have secretly asked myself numerous times. I try to be original. It's hard. Art is timeless.

Apologies for the second comment, but I also recently ran into a journal which made me thoughtful indeed. [link]

Truly well done.

This actually reminds me of a point our Drama/English teacher recently made. Everything has been done before; hundreds of years ago stories were already being retold and revised under new guises; Shakespeare pulled from older stories, and those from older stories still. Now? Can there truly be something that has not at least been hinted at before? Yet we keep going, and somehow, it seems to work. Perhaps we are simply creatures of habit, comfortable with reviewing the same things. Perhaps we're simply that forgetful.

...Perhaps we're just presumptuous.

Unlike some people that make poetry, this stuff is actually conceptual.

I think, that simply, the answer to these questions is another question: Who are we not to?

Still, I love it.

And here I thought you were creating human life for a moment. o.O
Come visit me one of these days and I'll make my husband (still sounds fucking weird) give you some Chex mix. (:

VelvetRain In reply to The-Silver-Assasin [2011-11-25 04:31:09 +0000 UTC]

Haha. It's about how awkward I feel creating something that has already been done a thousand times, but how comforting it is to know that I am feeling and experiencing the same things that people like me have felt and experienced for centuries. That was a long sentence.

Anyway, yes! Chex mix and husbandry! Er... something like that! I'll try to stop by soon!
