Description *giggle* Sorry. I just had to put "on fire" in the topic, lol! Mmm... this took me from September 6th - September 11th working for most of the day. There were over 100 layers, but I lost track at around 120. I made a very bad mistake (I should know better) and didn't name but a few (like no more than 12, lol) of the layers and so... I ended up spending way too much time just finding what I needed to fix! But I honestly didn't realize it'd take up so many layers!

Well, this is the 1,000 kiriban for Tom. When I asked him if he wanted blood on Kakashi (not just the sword) he said no, so there's why Kakashi's not bloody. Or maybe his opponent(s) were just really easy(?) either way it was fun and I got really stuck on working on this pic. I'd really wanted to add more to it, but then I realized adding more would detract from the flames, so I decided I'll just leave it as is.

Thanks for 1,000 hits, everyone! ^^

its a phenominal peice of work, but i'm sure you'll hear that 100x so i'll offer some critique that came to mind: the way his arms and the sword are positioned are very awkward. his right arm should drop lower than the extended arm - also, the angle of the sword should be raised more towards his face, cause the more outstreched your arm is, the less you can move your wrist. try making his pose. while it is easily in the human range of motion, his left hand would have little to no grip or leverage.

thats just my opinion though, and last time i checked i was horrible at drawing keep up your great work!

Thanks greatly for the insight! I don't have a sword, so I found it VERY difficult to try to do this pose. I'm quite sure I must have gotten it wrong somehow *laugh* I really have no models to go by, so I had to settle on what I could picture in my mind (which is sometimes quite vague, infortunately). I don't have any mirrors either... so I can't really use myself as a model either. I suppose if I do find a nice full length mirror that's affordable, I might buy it... I should go see if I can find one.

So cool. I wish I could color like that... I think I say something like that everytime.
I think the most layers I ever used was around 20... I have a hard time using more than that.

Yeah, it's annoying using more than 20. You're actually supposed to merge some before it gets too high, but I forget about that sometimes lol. The main reason it came out as detailed as it did is because the sword, the skin, the hair, the scarf all had at least 8 layers each. The belt had the least layers (only 4). So it more or less shading or lighting over a base layer with a similar color or a pale blue (for shading) or red (for brightening the shading). I never realized that blue and red could be used like that until I saw a art tutorial recently and since then I just can't stop using light blue instead of grey to shade.

Light purple could work too. Cept it makes things look more nighttimeyish.
Red brightens the shading? I should try that sometime.
I think my shadings gotten better (I'm actually not sure) But I still suck at highlights. I don't like them. They make me frustrated.

for highlights I generally use warm colors. Like yellow, orange, red, or the skin tone I'm using sometimes. I think the best way to lighten shading is to do a warm tone over the shaded area and then start messing with the layer settings to see which you prefer. I tend to use a orange or gold over blue shading with the layer set on screen (in opencanvas) and change the opacity until it fits. Whereas addition will be overly bright, screen and overlay aren't so inflexible and are much better for that sort of thing. I used a red hue in the shading for the Kakashi pic and the undershading was a light blue and the skin tone multiplied.

Purple is a good color to use, but I noticed it usually ends up giving a pinkish tinge sometimes. So I usually end up preferring blue and its soft dulling. What I did find purple was great for was outlining. When doing art by mouse, I use a lighter hue of purple (sometimes a grey-purple) to outline the body and eyes, ect. When the purple is left as the outline it ends up having a better effect than black and even brown. I was kinda surprised by that.

Cool. Thanks for the tips. Now I just need a good picture to color. *shifty eyes*
