This is the protagonist from the They Might Be Giants music video "Bastard Wants to Hit Me" ([link] ) which I posted a link to in my journal the other day. ... Yes, I did music video fanart. Look how adorable he is! Wouldn't YOU do music video fan art? I really, really like this music video, and I also really, really like this character.It's a simple video. Dude wandering through town gets approached by this skeevy looking Crazy Bastard he doesn't know, wants the guy to leave him alone, runs away, gets chased and [spoiler] gets punched in the face.[/spoiler] -- betcha didn't see that coming.
I suggest you go watch the video, not for the music (although it's fun), or even the message (which is Crazy Bastards may want to hit you) -- but you need to see the animation. It's really neat. Very smooth, especially the bit in the beginning where the Crazyy Bastard leaps against the fence -- there's some great emotive action from both Protagonist and Crazy Bastard-- but also later on when the Crazy Bastard jumps over another fence. You get a real feeling the animators really cared about what they were doing.
He's a simple character, but I've some how created this entire little life for him... which is silly of me, because he's not mine.
But, I'd just like to think the poor little yuppie boy has someone to go home to who will smile, try not to laugh, give him a hug and give him an ice pack.

I saw the video a few months ago and I really love it ... I think the animation is awesome too...specially when this guy start running and his expressions are cool!

I loved the animation in the vid, though I didn't think the crazy guy was all that bad (He reminded me of an old friend of mine XD) I do feel bad for the main character though, espically now that I see this pic. Nice work btw

I TOTALLY agree. I'm nutso for that video, everything about it's amazing. Did you notice the various symbols, like how when he's running there's a barcode in the corner, like a price tag, symbolizing the price on his head? The whole thing's genius.

I love that video, and the song, I have watched it about twenty times since I discovered it fifteen minutes ago! I could watch it forever! I have shown it to all my mates!
Lol, his fashion sense is nice and unque, but it's too cute so it's cool! Nice to see the story continued, and you draw him so well too! Now I am going to have to draw him, lol, but he wouldn't turn out as well as yours! Great stuff! ^_^ I dunno how I had missed it for so long! Someone on a forum of mine posted the link in a chatbox, and I fell in love!

Isn't it just the best video? The animation.. just, wow! I feel awkward comparing it to the "The Theif and the Cobbler" but, just a little, some of the motions seem to compare in attention to detail.
If you're intrigued, I also managed to contact the people who made it via e-mail and the video's director said this fellows name is Eddie (a name he was playfully given by the crew because he has a widow's peak like Eddie Munster). The Bastard was always just called The Bastard-- and the bit where he puts a bag over his head was inspired by early concept sketches. I wish I coulda learned more, but I they're a busy company and I was honored to get any response at all.

You know what? If I were to suggest a name for the guy, I would say Eddie, he looks like one! I expect we all get approached by bastards in our lives at some point! I hope mine puts a bag on his head and leaps over a fence! Nice to know a little more about it from the geniuses themselves! ^_^
Oh the animation! I am one of those people that is obsessed with the quality of it, be it in video games, TV cartoons or animated movies, and nit-pick everything, but this animation is pretty nifty! It's detailed, but not overloaded with it! 
I actually went out and drew some fanart for it! I never stay true to my word on things like that! Best video I've seen in a long time!

I'm glad your amused. I tried to explain my fascination with this video to someone other than someone who knows me, and they just sorta smiled and didn't care. I'm glad I have a number of friends who will at least smile and nod, because I know I get obsessed at times, and you just need to humor me until it goes away.

Wow, you got the style down great. I like those spindly fingers that you draw too, where did you go to learn how to do that? I have a hard time drawing hands that way and having them look like a stylistic thing instead of just being, well, bad.

I am really proud of his fingers, they turned out nicely spindly-- I learned to do that by watching the music video. I just drew the fingers he has... I couldn't see 'em very well, but I could see 'em well enough to understand how to draw 'em.
Yeah, ain't his clothes silly? The puffy vest, long sleeved shirt and a collared shirt over that? I love 'em. He's just so adorably loserly. El es un perdedor ^.^
-- for some odd reason, I am also completely convinced he's half-mexican... I'm not entirely sure why, but I swear he's some super suburbanized yuppie half-mexican who got his father's old car-- which is why Crazy Bastard thinks he recognized him, he does look slightly homey ish. Or, At least, for no good reason I'm convinced he does.... I think I put way too much thought into this.
