Description I'm not going to lie, painting is not on my list of things to do in my free time when I paint 40 hours a week for my job. But I found time to do this guy tonight! And it was fun.

Any suggestions on what might be going on in this pic?

Hmm let's see... Looks like one of Tree Beard's friends (from Lord of the Rings) in a forest that has just burned down and has stumbled across the last living sapling in the wasteland of ash. He himself is a burning tree that has hardened on the outside for the most part but still quite warm on the inside.

I have to say you nailed the burnt wood texture here and the ashes and dust in the air after the fire. Very nice work!

I don't know what's going on! Either the dark tree creature is bad and has just destroyed the woods, only to find out that something will always survive his fire. Or the creature has just survived a fire, is now torched but has manage to protect that little beginning of a tree (and maybe that's not a tree, it could be the begining of another creature).

A demon of destruction was released into a forest. It unleashed its powers ans when on a fiery rampage. The once lush green forest became a desolate wasteland. It looked upon the wasteland with pride in its unholy work. It was about to return to the flaming depths from whence it came when it notices a single seedling among the ashes. Upon seeing this the demon felt guilty of its needless destruction. Its rampage had defiled something magical. As an act of penance it decided to turn over a new leaf and become a protector of the forest that will replace the one that was destroyed.

That''s what I think is going on here.

The design of the tree/fire monster is great. It has a sort of "magma" feel to it. You did a great job at conveying emotion in something that doesn't have a face.

I like the story a lot, and thanks! You know, the bit of green could also have something to do with my other character, The Gatherer: [link] ...

Life breeds destruction, just as destruction breeds life. The cycle is endless but, in this continuum there are moments where life and death are able to become aware of one another. Sometimes less is more. Good work, kudos!

It finally understands that amidst all of it's destruction and devastation life can still flourish. Meaning of life, it's soul cries out in to the night sky as he falls to ashes and lets life bloom once again.

Love it. The sense of wonder and awe as a spirit of fire and destruction is struck with amazement at the sight of new life.

This is gorgeous! The design of the creature reminds me of the shadow monsters in Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. As for suggestions for what's going on in this pic, it looks like the creature is some kind of tree, but with burning embers under it's bark. (I'm thinking it's an ent-like creature). Maybe there was a forest fire and he is one of the trees that survived, alone and desolate with no friends and his home destroyed, but there is a tiny bit of life/hope left in the little forest sprout and he will now nurture and take care of it and hope to rebuild the forest one day :3
