Here's the first picture of my Katniss Interview dress from the Hunger Games!I made this for Dragon*Con in Atlanta, 2012. I first made an understructure of cotton twill which was boned to hold the dress up. The body of the dress is made of silk taffeta. The hem contains 9 yards of hand-dyed silk satin, out of which I cut 162 petals and roll-hemmed them together, and inserted into the taffeta. Then the taffeta was backed with gold organza and draped into place on the understructure. The back is made from layers of tulle (not visible) and there are Swarovski crystals on the hem and covering my arm. When I twirl, the hem flares out pretty impressively! (but doesn't catch on fire. It does, however, sparkle.)
I won the Best in the Professionals Category in the Friday Night Costuming contest at Dragon*Con 2012: it's my first award from that contest!

I made it out of a non-stretch twill fabric and I fit it to the nines, then I added some boning to it. The back of it is sheer, but I put clear elastic in the top to attach the top. I want to add a waist tape to it to help hold it up more

This dress is absolutely impressive. I missed the contest and when I saw your name and the costume listed on the Daily Dragon the next day I was looking forward to seeing pictures of it! Amazing!

Well, costuming is the art of physically making the costume, and trying to create the portrait of a character. Cosplay is a relatively new term, which technically applies to anime and japanese themed costumes, and 'Costumed Roleplaying'. Unfortunatly, because the younger (90's generation anime crowd) has latched onto this word, now everybody seems to this anybody wearing a costume is a 'cosplayer'. Costuming is an artform and cosplay an activity. People keep unfortunatly calling those of us serious costumers 'cosplayers' and I find it rather annoying, so I've tried to put disclaimers on my pictures. It has cut down on it a lot! I do get a bunch of cosplayers ticked off that I think there's a difference though
