Hello, I just thought you all wouldn't mind seeing this if you haven't already. The first in game screen shot for Skryim [link] and an awesome article about how the new NPC's will work, their daily lives, schedules and if you bestfriends then some will even let you eat their food and sleep in the quest bed :-D I'm so excited

Off-topic: I really hope that TES V: Skyrim will have such similar graphic rendering quality, powered by a new engine. Anyway, despite that the Gamebryo engine have lots of issues and bugs, this engine was simple to use for modders in Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3, especially when porting meshes, in .nif format, from a game to another quickly and easily...
I will wait eagerly 11/11/2011 for exploring Skyrim!

Well since they've made a whole new game engine for Skyrim, I suspect we may just see such scenes as this with just about the same quality. You can bet its going to be on DX11.

Too bad DX has pretty much taken the cake with OpenGL. OGL is great for mobile devices and such, but its still leaps behind DX11. Hasn't been a release for opengl in a long time thats up to specs for the crunching a Desktop GPU/some console gpu's do. No developer these days will go out of their way to use a non standard API unless its on a console made for it. Which at the moment, mobile devices are. They have good computing power, but not good GPU power, not yet. They will pretty soon, you can bet money on it.
Get used to seeing DirectX. Until another good efficient OS/API thats up to date and released, its going to be the standard for a long time for gaming.

RAGE engine by Cormack (and all Quake games) they are all OpenGL based.
UNREAL 3 engine is written either in OpenGL, DX9 or DX10/11 depends on the used platform:
"The latest release is the Unreal Engine 3, which is designed around Microsoft's DirectX 9 technology for 32/64-bit Windows XP/Windows Vista/Windows 7 and Xbox 360 platforms, DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 for 32/64-bit Windows Vista/Windows 7, and OpenGL for 32/64-bit Linux, Mac OS X and PlayStation 3."
I do not to search for more, but Yes, Microsoft shit the gaming market with its 'great' and 'cross-platform' DX solutions.

MAybe, but game designers forgot about what games should be ... fun and a challenge, currently its mostly nice graphics and sound and plot so poor that I do not even want to search for adjectives to describe it ... but thats today's gaming.
