The Blue Iguana is the Animal of the Month in the Wildlife Awareness Group! This endangered iguana was brought back from the brink of extinction by conservation efforts on Grand Cayman, so that's pretty amazing c:

Animal of April 2023: Blue Iguana!Hey, nature fans!!Our new Animal of the Month is the Blue Iguana (Cyclura Lewisi), aka Grand Cayman Blue Iguana, Grand Cayman Ground Iguana or Cayman Island Rock Iguana!!This unusually colored iguana was thought to be a subsspecies of the Cuban Iguana, but has been known to be a different species, thanks to genetics, since 2004. They are the iguanas with the longest lifespan, around 69 years, and they are herbivorous.Their number is increasing atm, but it is because it became dramatically small... the adults have no natural predators, but eggs and young ones are often victims of cats and dogs and their habitat was damaged by agriculture... in 2004, there were only 15 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Blue Iguanas in the wild... Their fate seemed to be sealed, but dedicated people, on Grand Cayman and in zoos where there were a few iguanas, decided to take action, and no less than 5 associations combined their efforts to help save them... Captive breeding, protected zones, reintroduction: all these efforts had led to today's population being of around 1000 individuals, according to the latest news I could get on them (2020)... it's so reassuring, I think, to see that sometimes efforts pay off...so let's all add our artworks to join the effort, by raising awareness, and to celebrate, too, this small victory in the history of humans trying to save species from extinction!In the meanwhile, I would like to thank you, each of you, the amazing artists who took time to draw/paint/talk about a tiny -but amazing- spider last month, with WONDERFUL Diving Bell Spider art!!,,,,,,,,,

I'm slowly recovering from being sick, and trying to find a new job, so art has been (and probably will be) a little slow from me, but I'm trying to get back to it! This was a very fun way to re-start drawing, and I experimented a little with it c:

Materials: Micron pigma pens, sharpie, india ink, white gel pen, alcohol markers, and colored pencil on blue card stock, about 12.5 x 9 inches.
