Description TODAY'S BIRD: The Marbled Murrelet (Brachyramphus marmoratus, endangered) is a small penguin-looking seabird that frequently flies long distances and nests in the thick moss on the branches of old growth trees in the forests of North America's western coast. If I were a bird, this is who I would want to be... minus the various threats to its survival, including death in fishing nets, food scarcity due to overfishing, and loss of nesting sites due to logging. In addition to the habitat totally removed by logging, clearcutting some areas makes the forest that remains less suitable for nesting in part because corvid activity increases, leading to increased nest predation (corvids love eggs and young birds, eep).

Materials: Micron pigma pens (FB, 05, 01) on smooth Bristol paper, 8x5 inches.
