Description
The critically-endangered Wild Bactrian Camel is the animal of the month in the Wildlife--Awareness group, and this is the first drawing I've done this year! Wild Bactrian Camels are a separate species from 'regular' Bactrian Camels (Camelus bactrianus), and have more conical humps, lankier bodies, flatter heads, and paler wool. There are only about 1000 of these fellows left in the wild, and they are in danger of becoming extinct in the wild (though there are some in zoos as well). Illegal hunting for meat is the major threat facing this species in their range (northwestern China and southwestern Mongolia). I can't even remember when I last did a plain 'ol pencil drawing! I don't like the way pencils feel on paper - it's a little like fingernails on a chalkboard to me, I don't know why - so I avoid using them. But my hand has been bothering me, and I thought using pencils would help me pay more attention to my pressure and grip; I guess it did a little? Idk. But it was a nice exercise c:

Materials: Graphite pencils (3H, 3b, 8B) on sketch paper, 8.5x11 inches. Took 2 hours.
