El nombre de Hastur, primero aparecio en la historia corta de Ambrose Bierce "Haita el pastor" (1983) comno un benigno dios de los pastores. Robert W. Chambers uso Hastur en sus propias historias como el nombre de una persona y un lugar relacionado a la estrella Aldebaran
