Possibly my best ever PA work being completely based on a distinct sprite style: The style used in the GBA pokemon games. Well, it goes for Diamond and Pearl too even though they're on DS, the styling is exactly the same.

Yup, it's Riolu, the "baby Lucario" I'm not really a fan of the Riolu evolution line because it's evolution Lucario seems overplayed in competitive gaming circles and is possibly the most overrated Pokemon of all time. But Riolu's sweet and cute and looks like a baby bipedal jackal/canine and that's all that matters ^-^ hence the sprite.

I'm pretty happy with this but not entirely as those grey things on it's hands look poor, it's ears look like they should be bigger and the pose is boring. This took shorter than i expected at just 45 minutes or so, especially given the slightly painstaking aspect of staying true to the GBA pokemon sprite style, even the sprite pixel size and proprtions. 100% from scratch, the only remotely derivative thing being the palette taken from the official D+P Riolu sprite.
