SEGA own Sonic.
Archie does not.
It's one thing being disdainful of the sometimes questionable things that SEGA does regarding the comic which is your right - It's fine to voice discontent with some of the mandates SEGA has proposed especially when they make little sense and are arbitrary. But it's an altogether different thing to act as if they have no right whatsoever to dictate how their franchise is to be portrayed.
It is SEGA's inalienable and intrinsic right to dictate exactly how Archie are to portray and handle their characters and series. Too many times have I observed Archie fans pointing the finger at SEGA and making the company out to be some massive evil regarding the amount of control and influence it has over the comic when if anything, it is within their perfect rights to do so as the creator and owner of the Sonic franchise. It's especially ironic when you consider that quite an amount of unpopular choices made with the comic were not even as a result of SEGA but Archie itself. Yet the fans were quick to level criticism at SEGA instead of Archie.
Another thing is that Archie was allowed far too much liberty with this comic for far, far too long. When SEGA started becoming more authoritative regarding the portrayals of their characters and the way they are incorporated into stories, this needed to happen.
Do you want to see more instances of ridiculous love dodecahedrons that take far too much precedence?
How about spotlight-stealing hordes of Echidna's who wrestle attention away from the main focus of the comics?
What about characters having ridiculously over-exagerrated portrayals of emotion in the art?
How about quality control regarding art so that you never see the likes of "Many Hands" again? - i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3β¦
SEGA aren't some monstrous entity just because they exert their rightful authority regarding a licensed advertisement that features their beloved franchise. It's their damn right to step in and dictate whether you like it or not.

I argue that cutting out all that cringe only made the comic better than it ever was.
Which still isn't really good per se, but at least now my brain won't melt reading the stories (or my eyes burn looking at the art).

Is it bad that I like characters like Mina, Fiona, Julie Su, ect. and prefer the original designs of the characters from AOSTH and Satam? Is it also bad that I wish they could have changed the characters from the original comics rather than deleting them?

The problem is that SEGA is abusing there authority. Here is an example: it is my right to make a racist rant, but I won't because that is a horrible thing to do. It was SEGA's right to make these mandates in the reboot, but they shouldn't have made these mandates because they were horrible. The Sonic comic was awesome because it took risks and made themselves bigger than the games. We got to see the characters have families. I understand annoyance toward love dodecahedrons but is that much better than making all the game characters lack any relationships.Β Β Β

I'm a massive fan of the Archie Comics andΒ I agree 100%. People act like Sega are these big mean bullies for wanting their creations to behave a certain way and the Sonic's a less interesting character simply because he can't cry (Which he can BTW he just can't be a blubbering mess).

It's so sad that s**t like this happened to the Sonic fanbase. People believing a separate continuity made by a different company who got permission is the real sonic continuity or believe it's the real sonic. You see the Pokemon franchise with 3 continuities which are all different: Pokemon Adventures(manga), Pokemon(anime) and the main game franchise. And you don't see them going all ballistic on eachother because they ALL F*****G KNOW THE GAME IS THE MAIN CANON. Yet in the Sonic franchise where the games are so flippin obviously the main canon, we still have fan brats who believe the comic is the main canon. The comic was made for entertainment not to dictate the franchise's characters, backstories and relationships. It's like saying the Megaman cartoon series is the main canon.

Non game characters in SatAM, AoStH, Archie, Fleetway, Underground, OVA...basically any character that doesn't exist in the games or only exist in Sonic games that are non-canon to the main series are not game canon. This goes for Sonic Spinball and it's inclusion of Freedom Fighters in a bonus stage.
