Description Because I could not wait for Death--
He kindly stopped for me--
His carriage held but just Ourselves--
And Immortality.

Costume made by your truly for the actress Caris Cooper in her one woman Senior Performance "The Belle of Amherst".
She did an excellent job playing the wonderfully quirky, thoughtful Emily Dickinson who always wore white, offended her neighbors, and despaired that anyone would ever see the dreams in her poetry.

For Costumers: White cotton skirt and bodice made in the Garibaldi style with full sleeves and dropped shoulders. Cotton crochet lace edging at collar and sleeves with embroidered inset on bodice. Pearl buttons up the back and sleeves with crocheted loops for closure (since I'm way too much of a weeny for hand done button holes). Skirt fits full five bone hoop. Circa 1860 (or so since this style was pretty popular for a while)

P.S. And was this dress entirely made out of sheets? You better believe it (not counting buttons of course) My $4 dress. *happy cheap dance

This is a really amazing dress! It is hard to believe it is sheets! I may be using sheet material in my first creation. It's good to know they can turn out so breathtaking!

Blushes wow thank you. Yes, in truth, sheet material is just high grade cotton which can be quite expensive to just buy. You can usually find it in a quite a few colors as well.

By far one of my favorite poems of all time (The Raven and Annabel Lee being the tho other that popped in my head right now).

I love the emotions this image conveys and from what i can tell the costume is well crafted. Good job. The only thing that i would have liked different is the focus of the camera. The picture is slightly blurry (but it could just be the image quality). I would have suggested that the lens focused on her hands or her eyes.

I will pass that on to the photographer. I'm just the seamstress

I agree (strangely enough Annabel Lee is also one of my very favorites as well).

I'm looking forward to finishing with my interior design studies so that i can apply for a masters in costume design. One year seems too long to wait...

Where do you hope to work?

Dunno yet. I like details so cinema is probably my ultimate goal but i wouldn't say no to theater either.

Where do you work? Does it have to do with costume making?

Smile occasionally - I worked as the costumer at my alma mater for 5 years and do reenacting. It doesn't pay the bills, but it does feed the addiction

I envy you. My work doesn't pay the bill either, thats why i still live with my parents. I wish it at least fed the addiction. Yesterday was my (another) first day of drawing classes, which i started purely out of need to draw.
