Description You okay Verulence? Anything I can do to help? Verulence? Veeerrruuuulllleeennnnccceee?

When using Photoshop I feel like Derpy most of the time...
I wanted to paint something in Photoshop instead of SAI to see if I could and I guess it worked out. Took way longer than it should though. I'm really bad at Photoshop... Whatever. I'll stick with SAI for now.

Really though you're inking is awesome. Have you tried digital?

Digital is hard when all you have is a mouse.

More than that, digital won't fix my underlying issues with perspective, symmetry, unsteady hands, lack of innate spatial sensibilities, composition...

I'd say you could do vectors but... I'm not a big fan of them honestly. I much prefer what you already do!

It might with time and practice! Besides you totally do awesome work with what you got already. I'm sure if you got a tablet you'd be rockin it.

ABronyAccount In reply to verulence [2015-03-24 15:24:02 +0000 UTC]

Eh, what I'd want a tablet for is coloring practice and making digital comics where copy/paste panels are easier. You know, bein' lazy.

No, I'm not awesome. I have serious deficiencies in the basics and fundamentals. Not sure my l33t sk33llz can progress beyond what they are, I've been drawing pretty "seriously" since middle school and swiping my older brother's copy of HTDC The Marvel Way.

That's about 20 years ago now.

verulence In reply to ABronyAccount [2015-04-09 03:23:23 +0000 UTC]

It is a big help being able to copy the base for a face onto another panel to alter slightly and show more subtle changes in expression. Rather than doing real life form traditionally with a light table anyway. It's not lazy it's... utilizing ones tools

Well then you're even more awesome that you produce great work with your said deficiencies
Real talk though if you feel you haven't made the progress you've wanted for that time maybe theres some methods you haven't tried. Opposed to the common saying, practice does not necessarily make perfect because it is possible to practice incorrectly. If there's a will theres a way is more appropriate. Another gay saying but that ones more true. If you really want to and have the time, you can. I'm not the best but I could help if you want! Just throwing that out there.

Whichever works best for you! Both tools appear to let you create dawws and such.

I haven't used SAI. I live in Photoshop. One of the biggest differences that I've heard is that SAI has some great blending tools. While Photoshop does have blending tools too, they're a bit different. I believe they're only in CS5 and above, where bristle brushes were added. I'm still learning, and I've gone through training with most of the tools.

verulence In reply to AffinityShy [2015-03-23 02:07:09 +0000 UTC]

I just really wish I was comfortable with Photoshop because that's what I should be using since it's the industry standard. Ah well. I'll make whatever I want on what I want!

Yeah the main reason I stick with SAI is because it acts like real paint and its simple. No matter what I've tried I haven't gotten Photoshop to operate like it's paint. One day...

AffinityShy In reply to verulence [2015-03-23 06:47:56 +0000 UTC]

Heck yeah! The final product is what matters. Use what'cha like.

SAI must use a subtractive color system then, and treat colors like pigments. Photoshop uses an additive color system, and treats colors like light. Colors blend differently. Stuff be weird. Bristle brushes in Photoshop CS5+ kind of behave like traditional media. I'm not sure how similar they are to SAI though. Loading Artists' Brushes from the Tool Presets gives some brushes that pickup color and blend like paint, but I've only played with them a bit.

Yup yup yup!

Hell if I know (nah you just eat em) Maybe I need to check those brushes again then. I swear though.  No matter what I tried the colors wouldn't mix with each other...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AffinityShy In reply to verulence [2015-03-25 05:15:30 +0000 UTC]

mmm... color systems... Bristle Brushes are Tool Presets for the Mixer Brush (same icon as the Brush tool, with the addition of a paint drop in the upper left and more options in the tool bar). While the regular Brush tool can use Bristle Brushes, they don't work the same way; they don't blend/mix. Photoshop is weird like that for some reason. Two different brush tools because... classic and emulator? The Mixer Brush has options for how wet the brush is, how much paint is on the brush, how much other color the brush picks up, whether or not the brush is cleaned after each stroke, and a "sample all layers" toggle. The colors will mix like a traditional brush this way. It's a great blending brush if you choose to not have the brush loaded with color (painting with transparency/water). It also has some fun sampling cheats. (all to me: egghead)

Actually I'm using Inkscape for my draws, but for shadows I'm sometimes, duh, I mean almost everytime slow down with the shadows. Even I try to organize my layers, and objects, ... Well it take a lot of time to:
Draw them (I still don't have the perfect eye to see where I should draw shadow or not)
Arrange them with the layers, etc.

I never tried SAI before. Maybe I'll try for my next draw. It is faster than Inkscape for vector art ?

Great job as always by the way ! The crunch face will always make it to the top.

verulence In reply to Falcotte [2015-03-23 02:01:59 +0000 UTC]

I'm less of a photoshop guys simply because I don't like using all those extra options... I'm more simple. No more than like 10 layers.
You should try SAI if you want try like paint paint. It doesn't do vector. It's got tools to give the impression of vector art but no actual vector capability.

And thank you so much! Derpy is best derp

SAI is a raster art program. It has a simple vector line-art function, but if you want vectors, stick to Inkscape or Illustrator.
