First of I love your work, second do you use any sort of references for your artwork?

Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

As for references, I do in a roundabout way! Most of my pics don't use direct references and i draw from my imagination, but I do examine real life pictures and whatnot and apply them to my art and to help me visualize certain things for future drawings. It's mostly commissions and some of my doodles that i don't post that are directly from reference.Β

I've been trying to find poses of guys with the kind of builds you draw but when I type in Chubby Male - I get all manner of nonsense from heavy women to hugely obese guys. Which is fine if that's what I was looking for but its not! I hoping you had some secret stash of reference stock images. Mostly its the study of clothing on chubby guys I'm looking for.Β
If I look up male, pose , reference then I get the lean , muscular guys which doesn't much help aside from poses. Β I'm having a hard time with how fabric moves agaisnt a guy with a slight belly in a button up shirts. But anyways your work is great studying it does help with my own practice in drawing the male form.

I can totally understand your predicament. It's super difficult to find proper references for some of the less "extreme" builds on either side of the spectrum, and especially frustrating when this middle ground is your preference (like in my case). A good place to go to would be online dating places that cater to heavier body types and weight gain, such as Feabie and, more preferably for males since its mostly a gay site, Grommr. Despite the target audience, there is a huge range of body types to study, because there are many people of various types who wish to grow larger, or simply appreciate larger sized people. And since there are a lot of people who are actually trying to put on weight, sites such as these are good for seeing progression pics! Some of the men start out really petite, and end up quite sizable!

The downsides is that both mentioned sites, and many others, require accounts to access (easy if you don't mind making one), and they only allow you to look at 25 enlarged pictures a day unless you pay their subscription fee. It's not too bad if you visit on a regular basis over a long period of time (like me), so its a pretty easy to get by without buying the subscription. Do be respectful about not sharing the user's pics without permission though!

Another good source is to simply follow belly and large men appreciation blogs on tumblr (which is where I'm the most active, to be honest). All of them have their own preferences and tend towards specific types and builds, but if you can find one that suits your purposes, you'll often come across excellent pictures to use as references and studies. Some gainers also have their own blogs that they post pictures of themselves and their body-building progress.

I can start you off by pointing you to the blog of one of my followers who has a good range of guys to oogle (be aware there may be NSFW in there, so be careful if you don't like that) :Β chubbycountryman.tumblr.com/ar… (the archive part isnt necessary, but its quicker to look through all the pics in my opinion)

Oh! And finally, there's always youtube. Lots of people like to post videos of weight gain progress and whatnot, so that's always a good place to check it out.

I do hope this helps!

That does help immensely and I am familiar with you tube so I will work up some gesture drawings from those videos, I likely am subscribed to a good number of belly building types out there.
I will give.those other sites a look but most likely I wont be paying for a subscription. Thank you I'm glad I asked you for some tips.
