I kept merging it but usually it was one or two (once I like a part I just painted I merge it down so it's easier to transform).

For colours I usually use Soft Light and Overlay layers on top of grayscale. Picking the right saturation is troublesome sometimes but you'll get the hang of it. You can always make one more layer, set it to Saturation, paint it with black or white and then change its opacity so the region you want becomes less saturated.

have you ever made a tutorial/brush packet? i understood about 1/4th of that and it would be terific to be able to use photo shop like you can

I'm still cleaning up my brushes to publish them on dA. They're mostly a mix of different brushes made by other people but I guess it might be helpful.

i just wanted to see them for comparisons sake, my brushes are a mix to, and recently i have heard that its better to use the default then the more complicated ones... i like the mix persenoly
