Dude, he has PTSD after seeing his family murdered and you expect him to react when faced by the same species he had only experienced once before while his family was being slaughtered, and you expect him to know that not all of the human species is like that??? You expect him to respond? He's being overwhelmed and his sense of intense fear has overwritten his ability to process what's going on around him. It's not very surprising that he's acting like that, given his personality. It's a pretty scary thing to have to face your phobia so soon after experiencing the trauma that created the fear. Have faith, lad!
