Definitely a different take on the girl. Really gritty perspective, which I always appreciate in art. Also I don't see how you can get much more realistic than this when it comes to color and shading her character. The grey skin is pretty convincing.

That jewel is extremely tiny, even more so in the comic version (which this seems to be art for, over the show). It could easily still be obscured from our view.

I was actually having some difficulty with the face because of details I was putting into it. I was getting these really bad scowls and derp faces that just weren't working. It actually worked best when all the detail was taken out, so it's just a simple gradient with slight touches of drop shadows around the brow, hair, and nose.

how do you feel about the background in contrast to the hair?

I actually wanted the hair to fall into the background a little bit so the eye and face don't get overtaken by it. However, to still establish a discernible separation between the two, I made the background a warm tone while cooling the purple of the hair.
