The setting/environment is a dystopian steampunk fantasy world. There are three classes in one city named Elkmire The furbished, the wood, and the dust.
THE FURBISHED
The furbished is in the middle of this tight city in between canyons. People from the furbished are stereotyped to be rich and snotty. And the rich part is very much true. (Not to say they aren't also snobby..) They have sturdy houses with usually very nice trims, colors and such, just making the house look wonderful. It is the one place you'll actually find live trees and grass in the middle of this desert.
THE WOOD
The wood is the middle class of Elkmire. Houses are built quite nicely but simple to keep them safe during harsh nights. Most shops, plazas, and taverns are found in here. They are well known to be rather quiet but try to make the best out of it to be joyful.
THE DUST
The dust is on the very outskirts of town. People there are said to have the humblest of hearts of Elkmire, even though they are heavily disrespected for their poor state. Their houses tend to be poor quality and feeble, weather (mainly sandstorms) can easily knock down some of those poor little houses. Most workers such has pipeworkers and lampworkers come from here.
On the outside of Elkmire, is the outerlands.

the plot of it
Lamps are seeming to break down, for a unknown strange cause. Maybe someone or something is breaking them, but it is still up for debate. Beast threaten to get closer and closer as each night passes. Everything seems to be going down the hill. One day a strange figure appears with a beast to warn them all of a terrible fate. He ends up going to the Council of Guardians and pleading. Although skeptical, they choose many different individuals unique from the multiple classes to partake in finding what is happening. Perhaps a few come more come along to help..

THE OUTERLANDS
The outerlands is the terrain surrounding Elkmire. There is a patch of desert around Elkmire before it stops abruptly to looming canyons. It is pretty much a mesa. Everyone is warned to stay out of the outerlands and no one is known to be living out there. Beast and fowl creatures lurk in the outerlands, hiding in cracks and crevices of the gorge. Only scavenging groups sent from Elkmire are known to go out there, but only for a short time to gather valuable materials.
BEAST / FOUL CREATURES
Beast, or foul creatures they are sometimes referred to, remain in the outerlands. Although they only come out at night to prowl and happen to lurk in whatever the lamp's light don't happen to reach. Some can be seen in the early morning as well, most likely retreating back into the gorge. They are known to be highly dangerous and vicious, causing deaths once in awhile. It is rumored that some people have connections to beast ranging in bloodline.(edited)
LAMPS
Lamps keep the beast out of the city. They are of course, powered by water which is held by two little tanks placed at the bottom of the lamp. Since they provide light that scare away beast and tend to be easy to upkeep, they are very valuable. It is sometimes bluffed that the light from the lamps hurt the beast. To fill the lamps, lampworkers usually have to carry gallons of water on their shoulders with a hose coming out of the tank so that they can fill the two tanks on the lamp. Lampworkers are mainly people from the dust or the wood.
