Description Featuring Kharis Emai  and npc Verose
Spring || 2005
Verose's Valley || Scybilline Territory

The weeks prior to tonight had been full of anxious movement. Kharis felt like she had explored every inch of the Scybilline boondocks. She had spoken to few whilst doing it, trying to avoid the strange looks and inquisitive expressions- she knew she was an outsider here, she didn't need to explain it to them. The dragoness had been raised outside of their culture. Sure, Verose had taken great strides in teaching her about the herds dynamics and beliefs. She believed in Indula, trusted the moonlit goddess in her ways.

But Kharis had been raised on the road- movement was necessary in her sanity. Verose, for all the years that they had travelled with Kharis, raising and teaching the young dragoness, seemed all too happy to return to their ancestral home. All too happy to join an old friend once more and settle into a hidden valley full of green and streams and trees.

Verose was happy, but Kharis couldn't bring herself to settle. It wasn't her. Simple as that.

She had announced her plan last night, talking through it with Verose- disputing the logic and plans until they both agreed to disagree. Neither wanted to leave one another- it'd been years since they'd been apart for more than a day... But this was it. Kharis needed action whereas Verose was tired. Kharis had fought against those quiet voices in the back of her head saying that Verose had met the requirements an thus was dismissing Kharis as their charge, it wasn't true- she knew Verose would willingly continue to care for Kharis as she grew into a full adult.

They had argued deep into the night- Verose forcing Kharis to agree to travel the following night, sleeping through the day to be rested for the flight. As the moon rose into the sky, full and bright- as though Indula herself was blessing the decision, the pair moved into a clearing within the valley. It was a perfect area to take flight, she had scouted it within the first season of living within the Scybilline territory and had known from that moment on it was where she would leave them.

Verose had followed, their hoof steps light in the grass as they peered at Kharis with a frown. "You don't have to, you know." They murmured, a last ditch effort. "I'm not going to stop you, but I do think you're making a mistake." Their words were piercing, as venomous as the magic that would be present in their bite.

Kharis had to look slightly to the left- unable to look her mentor, guardian, parent and friend in the eyes. Her heart felt heavy and her eyes stung with the sentiment of disappointing them. Her departure needed to happen sooner rather than later, Indula's gaze climbing over the tree line as the night continued on.

"Gee, Thanks for the vote of confidence, V." She huffed, her voice cracking. Verose's eyes widened, body surging forwards a step as though they realized the pain they had inadvernedly caused with their blunted words. Their mouth opened, but Kharis was quick to cut them off. "I'll be okay, no need to worry about me." She declared, her green eyes looking up to the sky while she composed herself, steeling her heart and face. Her gaze met Verose's with a pleasant smile and bright eyes- almost too bright with a liquid shine that neither mentioned.

"Thanks for everything." She declared, her wings stretching out and fanning the grass blades against her claws. She couldn't say goodbye, it was too final. Verose was forced to take a few steps backwards as Kharis' wings stretched out and began to flap forcefully, effortlessly lifting herself off the ground with practiced strength, and into Indula's light. She circled the clearing, her wings gusting flaps fanned the grass wildly, Verose squinted through the dust kicked up, eyes never leaving Kharis, her mouth working- but the growing distance between them and her focus on her shoulders and wings movement to lift her bodies weight off the ground and into the sky had deafened the words. She couldnt decide if that was better or worse. Dismissing the tinge of regret for the lack of goodbye to her guardian, she cleared the treeline, her moonblessed stripes seeming to glow in the moons light.

She looked down once more, Verose's frill was the only touch of color on her dark guardian- making it easier to spot. She gave a small wave, ignoring the tears that now flowed on her cheeks- she was far enough that Verose wouldnt be able to tell anyways. It felt too final- but she knew theyd see each other again someday.

 "Ill see you later." She whispered, her wings beating again with finality, thrusting her away from the clearing and into the great unknown ahead. She had gotten a few leads of folks that needed help she thought she could provide- ideas of where to find the missing and rescue the needing.

She could do this.
