Am I correct to assume that the reflections, and refractions added a bit to the render time?

It usually does, but Poser 8 has a very improved render engine. By playing with the render settings (raytrace bounces, pixel samples and stuff like that) I can add many effects and shaders with almost no increase in render time. It also helps that I'm using the Pro version which is 64 bits (the actual name is Poser Pro 2010).
