Description
Two things've happened recently: I've played the long-awaited Xen level of "Black Mesa" (the first hour I was just staring in awe at the scenery porn rather than playing), and stumbled upon this old picture and decided to do it over. As for the subject of the picture... You see, since I first played Half-Life 2, a strange relationship formed between me and the G-man. Thing is, he keeps appearing in my dreams from time to time, being his usual, totally in-character eerie self... but he always does something nice. Once I dreamed he was sitting for a portrait while quoting something that sounded a bit like Lovecraft's "Fungi from Yuggoth". The other dream featured him as a head of examination board and he gave me full marks for my diploma presentation. The other time I dreamed I was very late for work, and he gave me a ride and then returned to ask if my boss noticed my absence. Things like that. This little pic is a scene out of dream where he cooked pancakes for me.

BRUH I love this!! It's so nice to just stare at! I recently got to the Xen level and I also spent a long time just staring at everything there, along with the music that played as you first see it all... amazing

Let's say, I'm glad the franchise is reinvigorated with new content and technologies, but with a lack of required equipment my chances to personally play it are pretty low.

I like the idea of him being nice, maybe that's what he does when he's not manipulating Gordon.

I'm actually jealous, haha. I want a creepy G-man friend. (I once dreamed that I was friends with Barney and I think I had a sex dream involving Gordon Freeman, but that was ages ago.)

I haven't yet played through with the final chapters, is it actually *finished* or did they just put Xen in without a 'finish'? It's been so long. Of course right now my current play through I am *actually lost* because I think one of the door triggers to open a level transition broke, so I haven't been back on it.
and heheh I was thinking the other day, "I have some apples that aren't gonna get eaten as they are, they would make good pancake fruit though".

did they at least get his voice spooky and not... I dunno, crap? I'm so hesitant because I really do love the way he sounded in 2, it's a huge part of his character. ah well I should play lol

I think it was okay. I mean, if you compare it to the HL1 monologue, it's passable. Comparing to the Heart-to-Heart monologue from Ep2 - it's nothing even close. But let's be honest, nothing can beat that Ep2 speech.
I've never liked the way he sounded in HL1, it seemed too... upbeat? much like a parody. In HL2 his voice is really a part of his dark uneasy charm.
Anyway, Black Mesa's Xen was a truly enjoyable experience for me. It dragged a bit on a couple of levels, but otherwise was great. You should play it

At some point someone (maybe me, it's been that long and I don't remember) referred to his hl1 voice as "now we know what it sounds like when you inhale a squirrel"
