--The ceremony for initiation into your clan has just finished. Your parents are very proud that you have reached adulthood and completed your initiation ceremony. Show your family and friends congratulating you!--Woodwind throws a secret party that invited everyone but Skrekrill.
She felt that everyone needed a chance to relax and be open with their new neighbors, the Grandesque, and threw a party in one of the few rare clearings in the jungle. Course they had placed a few volunteers to keep an eye out for peepers. On top of welcoming everyone, Woodwind had managed to collect a small lump of catnip for gryphons for those responsible to handle it. As for the feather sharing? Another one of Woodwind's ideas. Mostly it was due to how much she favored her own crest, she wanted to decorate it today, and had ask others to share each others feathers to remind them they belong to friends and family. Also to look just as gorgeous as herself.
I used so many refs for the gryphons. But I didn't for the jungles. ><

Drawing them so small helped a lot with the poses. Otherwise it would've been difficult to maintain details and anatomy into them.

It was a lot of fun figuring out the perspective. xD I pretty much drew a few straight lines, sphereized it, and then made box sketches on the side to show where the light needed to hit.

cool composition. I don't think I've seen very many pictures with foreground in the middle and background at top AND bottom. It's super duper and interesting and things etc. and so forth

I wanted to do it like a panorama from sky to ground, as the jungle is like crazy and variant. But I failed miserably in comparison to what I wanted to do. No great shadows, details, 30 kinds of plants, visual differences in jungle levels. xD The foreground was just practice at the triangle composition often used in classic paintings.That I did like.

This is beautiful, I love how you managed to put in so many characters and make it flow so evenly and balanced.

It was a lot of just white blobs at first, easy to manipulate, for some it was a matter of copy and pasting onto another layer to shift it around the more details I got in. I used a lot of bird references for this one as to fight my procrastination in understanding wings.

Hmm, interesting style. How many layers do you usually use when you paint?
Also, do you start in black and white and build up on color?

I think I came out to 30 layers, but that was the result of copy and pasting leaves, each gryphon ect. I usually try to keep the layers minimal with merging.
I start with a monotone usually, adding dull colors and work with more saturation as I work forward. If I need help on unification, I usually throw on gradients, or color replace areas til I find something appropriate.

I like starting with a monotone too, but I also have trouble because my work gets super contrasty in value, and I have a hard time adding colors. xD
