Wasn't planning on doing any art inspired by the recent total solar eclipse, but then started a space girl design contest (found here ), so I ended up whipping something together in the limited time (and within my schedule.)I know this doesn't completely fit the retro theme Jim was looking for, but honestly what better inspiration did I have for a space theme than actually witnessing something really cool happening in space??
So here's a little something different on the table. Hope ya like it, Jim.

I know you said you wanted to do something 'different' but this was honestly a pretty bad attempt to do it. :<
My contest had a lot of colour specifications for a reason; i LOVE colours.
And this design..... literally had none u_u
So while it's a cool picture and idea, it kinda fails in terms of design. I'm sorry.

There's a well known saying "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all". This was one of those time a simple "Thank you" would have been appreciated and not the rest of what was going through your mind.
It's one thing to CRITIQUE a work to hopefully make it better for future projects. BUT it's another thing to completely put down an artwork just because it doesn't suit your taste. Even if this was for YOUR contest, you should treat every entry as an honor because sometime took their precious time to create something to submit.
I read your directions, and from my point of view Vicky followed them. There was no requirement for a number of various colors (just suggestions- nudge nudge). Yes, design wise it is VERY simple and followed human anatomy (not much extras to make her appear alien). However simple designs or characters, can stand out more than a character that is very detailed. Or can be a springboard for possible original characters later on.
Clearly this was a misunderstanding between contest host and artist. So if you decide to have another contest where you WANT multiple colors, say " Character must contain four or more colors. not including background". Maybe a situation like this can be avoided in the future.

Just passing through because I say this in the comments of the design contest, but just wanted to say that holy crap, she looks super awesome! That's amazing that you based her off a solar eclipse; I would've never thought of doing that! Between you and me, I kinda hope she wins one of the places

Aaaaaah thanks for stopping by!! I hope I at least get like... a runner up mention or something for uniqueness. X'D I doubt it would have crossed Jim's mind either since last week's eclipse was prominently in the United States. (And I just so HAPPENED to live in the totality line!) One can always see pictures or videos of an eclipse, but seeing it with your bare eyeballs is something to behold. I'm glad I had a random excuse to draw something from the experience.
