Yeah, totally agree. His actual self must have suffered a lot... Also when he returned, wounded, and Talzin told him about his brother, I don't know.. first of all she only cared about Maul, I know, Palpatine promised to empower her yet he kidnapped little Maul, who were HER SON, but therefore Savage AND Feral WERE HER CHILDREN too. How could she sacrifice them both to get Ventres's avenge with Dooku? What kind of "mother" could do that?
As I was saying, I don't know, I think that once Maul and Savage were together, Savage showed love for his brother. They were a team but they took care of each other... Savage was morally evil, yeah, but after all he was being commanded by Maul, whom, in my opinion, was not mentally healthy... he was totally consumed by revenge thirst.. and he still is in Rebels. Also his last words.. "brother, I am an unworthy apprentice. I'm not like you.. I never was." Savage didn't behave as a Sith, didn't feel as a murderer but as a disappointing brother... This makes me feel so sad, that after all he suffered he cared about his brother the most... It really breaks my heart.

Savage didn't protect his younger brother, but decided that he could protect Maul. Thus, to make amends for the death of Feral. Maul nevertheless taught him to control his forces and aggression. With him, Savage became more disciplined.

Yeah, since he couldn't protect Feral he protected Maul... Although he was under the witches control he still that feeling inside him. And also, both Asaj Ventress and Dooku misbehaved with him, yet Maul did not.. and I agree, thanks to his brother he was taught discipline, not by hatred like his other masters but by respect. I still don't think that Maul is 100% mentally healthy but it's understandable.. he suffered so much. Poor Maul. I always wished that he succeeded against Obi Wan, and oh it hurted when he killed Satine in front of him but Maul had really deep wounds inside of him and.. well.. :c it is so complicated to apply simple moral values in these situations ;_;

As in life. Ambiguous situations with difficult people. If Obi Wan didnt mention his past and childhood,Satin would have remained alive. He just crossed the border and brought Maul out of himself. And if we take into account Maul mental state, then it wasnt stable, like an hour-long bomb. The result was unpredictable.
