They look like hyena cubs! So cute! Better watch from a distance, so the mom doesn't think I'm a threat to her little ones.

So cute! It'd be totally fine to just...pick them up and give 'em a cuddle, right?... No way that could end in tears...

So, these are the Andrewsarchus pups you mentioned when you replied to my post on the thylacosmilus drawing. I believe you did them right. After all mammal cubs/children look only marginally like their parents. Some say it's an evolutionary adaptation to cause the mother to not kill and eat them.

Yep, that's them. The main point of contention seems to be that I didn't make the claws hooflike enough, but since we don't have anything but the upper skull and no one can seem to decide what its closest relatives were, I can't see why I did so bad. Oh well . . .

Well, since all we have is the upper skull, we can't be absolutely certain that the Andrewsarchus even WAS an ungulate (hoofed animal for those who don't know). The BBC's show, "Walking with Prehistoric Beasts" stated unequivocally that that was the case. But, let's be honest here; they made MANY mistakes in that entire quadrilogy of series. (Not to mention they never even mentioned the prehistoric marsupials.)

Yah, but for its time it was quite good and I still enjoy it . . . shame there hasn't been an updated version!

That's true and I understand the limitations on episodes that are only 30 - 60 minutes long; but, there could always be extra long series spanning two or more seasons. Well, hopefully, the BBC will eventually decide to make a more in-depth series or, maybe, one of the numerous studios here in America will decide to do that. We can only hope and dream.

Quite cute, but perhaps "lambs" or "calves" would be a better name for them as Mesonychinids are actually a ancient group of carnivorous mammals related to ungulates.
