To me it look as if it were drawn, something too unreal to be real. Magic.
The flow of the water brings the greatest emotions, especially in the places where it is "still".

Wow... I'm not usually one for landscape photography, but this sure pulls me in; all of this looks majestically alive, and the textures are extremely sensual... What an amazing composition you've got here, too!

I don't like going on trip w/ tour guide...they rush you...by the time i set up my tripod and my Infra Red filter in place...they were ready to move on...

I had a very similar experience at the Hermitage Museum in Russia, but we pulled a mutiny and stuck around for as long as we could...
There's something so impersonal about most landscapes, I guess-- if I want to see one, I just go for a walk-- but this one, and a few others I've seen, looks like a landscape the way only YOU could've seen it, and shown it to me-- it's a very emotional landscape...

Very interesting IR here. It's nothing like my IR shots. I really need a camera that can actually DO IR.

This is actually the first IR shot I've seen of yours (not sure if you've done more). I noticed the number "8" in this photo. The bottom bluish hues and the bright whites at the top kind of come together in the middle, making everything blend.

Not sure if you knew this already or not, but if you want a better tonal range, shoot later in the day. I noticed the meta data said you shot this around 3:30. If I were you, I'd wait till later in the afternoon when the sun is more orange, or earlier in the morning.

more IR @ [link]
the time you suggested is better when shooting IR on a plain field to capture a more balanced tonal range...but when you shoot IR in the gorge where the top part of the sides is bright and the narrowed part where the water goes is dark...the tonal range of IR is hard to capture...sometime you'd shoot w/ more than one exposure and blend them in. If i was to shoot something like this at later in the afternoon, the portion where the water is will be very much underexposed just to expose the top part properly... the tonal range will be dramatically different. I don't know if you have tried to shoot IR where as one part is in the shadow and one part is exposed to extreme light...it's a task to take on if you ask me.

Yea, I understand with IR. It's a trick in itself really. I've shot a few test shots, and I know what you mean with underexposure in the shadows. It's really hard to do with my camera because I can just barely see what I'm shooting. It's crazy and tedious!

Skiethos In reply to phathryyn [2007-12-12 06:49:58 +0000 UTC]

I don't know you two. She still has a rebellious and mischevious side in her right? So I think she still has a chance to rebel when that copier least expects it. This is going to be fun. I can see it now:

Copier:#236487!!
Vietkat: Yes, sir?
Copier: I need some maintenance done and I'm counting on you to accompish this task. Can you do that?
Vietkat: Yes.
Copier: Very well. Do not fail!! Now get to work!!
Vietkat: Yes.

She has been working for what she calls a slavemaster who is pretty unforgiving and does not care about the lives or identity of anyone other than itself. She has taken the abuse very well, but after one mistake and a few thousand insults, she' just a hair's width from snapping and this will be the day it happens.

As Vietkat is sleeping her "master" calls her... loudly.
Copier:VIETKAT!!!!!
The vile machine's voice explodes in her ears. She tumbles from her chamber and sits up. Vietkat was having a nice tranquil dream and this thing had to wake her up in the most inconsiderate and blunt way. The poor girl needs her sleep and she hasn't had enough of it. She is this far from blowing up.
Vietkat: Yes, sir? She tries to keep the rage in her voice low so the machine doesn't notice. Good thing for her it doesn't.
Copier: The maintenance needs to be done now and you are in need. Come now.
Vietkat: "Yes." Her voice is now a low hiss.
What the machine doesn't know is last night the girl was thinking about what was going on and she got madder and madder until she snapped. She wasn't taking it anymore. She would have her revenge and destroy the infernal thing. She already knows how she will do it.

Vietkat walks toward the majestic machine and stands being scanned before continuing with her task. SHe has a toolbox to fix problems in the copier's works. But she has a much bigger problem to... fix. A rebellious yet proud smile is on her lips. She goes in a finds what the thing was talking about. as she works she installs a small but powerful explosive in different parts of the machine's inner parts. She soon emerges from her job and goes back to her quarters. She smiles mischeviously at what she has done and bides her time in looking for the perfect opportunity to spring her trap. Thanks to the copier being in a "good" mood the workers are let outside and strangely enough a long distance away. Just when slaves are ready to run from the complex's perimeter a series of explosions rocks the area.
"What the...?"
The workers turn back and see their former "home" in flames. More explosions erupt from the building as flammable materials go up. At first standing in shock the workers themselves erupt... in joyous cries of freedom. They are laughing and hugging and jumping about wildly. Meanwhile a shower has moved into the area and it starts to rain heavily. The workers don't care and continue their joyous uproar. Vietkat looks on through the increasing downpour at the place she loathed with every bit of her being.
Vietkat: "I've been a bad girl." She says naughtily.
She just walks through the crowd of people and disappears into the hard rain... on her way home. Before long the whooping has stopped and the rest of the now ex-workers disperse and head to their homes as well. No longer a slave to a machine Vietkat can now assume her real self, her real identity, the one she nearly lost. She walks into town and spots her home through the rain.
Vietkat: I'm finally home.
